Dear Parents /Carers,

 

We hope that you all had a good holiday.  Learning this week has seen Reception classes learning about space and the order of the planets.  Year 1 have been counting in 2’s and have made a portrait of Queen Victoria.  Year 2 have taken delivery of their egg pets and made homes for them.  Year 3 have written a letter to the council regarding their plans to build things in the park.  Year 4 have concentrated on charts and diagrams and had pen pal letters from Child of Hope School in Uganda.  Year 5 have done a workshop with the NSPCC and written explanations about why spiders spin webs.  Year 6 have used inks and brushes to draw pictures, written two conflicting view diaries and have also had NSPCC workshops this afternoon.

Child of Hope Sponsorship: Thank you to all who have brought in sponsorship money for Child of Hope.  If anyone forgot to bring it in today, please can we have your money in by Monday 13 June at the latest.

 

Sports Days:  Sports Days are scheduled for next week:

YR123 – 14 June - 9.15-11.30am – in the Park (20 June if cancelled)

Y456 – 15 June – 9.15-11.30am – in the Park (22 June if cancelled)

Parents and carers are welcome to watch (but please no dogs).

 

PTFA News: A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the Plant & Cake Sale last term. We raised a fantastic £351.40. We couldn't have done it without all the amazing volunteers.

PTFA General Meeting: Friday 24 June, 9am-10am, venue tbc. Come along and find out about our up and coming events and how you can help. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Bike and Scooter Day: Saturday 16 July, 1pm-4.30pm in the school playground.  We need volunteers to help with café & cake stall & craft activities.  Please email smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk , or leave a message with the school office if you can help.

 'Greening the Playground' funding bid workshop: Thursday 16 June 9am-10:30am please come and add your ideas to a workshop session for a horticultural/landscaping project that will make the school playground 'greener' and provide educational opportunities to be integrated into the school curriculum. Help us to define a project which can be put to potential funders for support.  Everyone welcome.

Year 6 Leavers Disco: Wednesday 13 July, 6pm-7.30pm in the school hall.  Thanks to Fleur & Julia for taking on the organising of this event. This is for year six children only.  More details will follow soon.  If any parents or carers would like to help with this please email smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk or speak to Fleur or Julia.

Air Ambulance Service Collection: Thomas is collecting green plastic milk bottle tops for the Air Ambulance Service.  Please bring any clean lids to school and put in the box in the foyer.

 

Community News: 

 

Dogs in Windmill Close:  Please can we remind dog owners to keep their dogs on leads when in the Close at drop off and collection time as lots of young children are frightened of dogs.

 

Get Fit Bollywood Dancing: Saturday 11 June at 4pm in Victoria Park.  Come along (come rain or shine!) with your friends and family to this one-off FREE open air dance lesson, part of Bristol’s Big Green Week. Don’t miss out on a super fun opportunity to dance to Bollywood and try out something new in the place we love the most! Bring as many people and kids as you like as long as they join in the fun! Travel News: There will be some closures on the M32 between junctions 1 and 3 from 8pm on Friday June 10 until 6am on Monday June 13.  The closures will allow a new bridge to be put in place over the motorway for the Metro Bus bus-only junction and are required to carry out this work safely. Garden Party: St Mary Redcliffe Church is holding a garden party for the Queen's birthday in the church yard on Saturday 11 June, 3-6pm. All are welcome.
