Dear Parents /Carers,
In school this week Nursery classes have made poppies to help them remember. Reception classes have been decorating skulls for the Day of the Dead celebration and have also made Diwali lamps. Year 1 have been to Victoria Park for hot chocolate and have been learning about shapes in maths. Year 2 have been learning their 10 times table and about letter writing. Year 3 have been learning a story called ‘Mountain Fire’ and looking at multiples of 10 and division in maths. Year 4 have been learning about a dragon called Yorick Ridgeback and about sounds in science. Year 5 have been learning about temperature and negative numbers and also have learned Bollywood dancing for Diwali. In Year 6 they have learned the formal method for long division and how to draw accurate self-portraits.

Reception Admission – September 2017: Parents/carers with children born between 01 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 are now able to make an application for reception admission in September 2017. The guide for parents/carers is available on-line at www.bristol.gov.uk/schoolsadmissions for you to view and download. The closing date for all applications is midnight 15 January 2017.
Children in Need: Children in Need Day is next Friday 18 November. The theme for this year is ‘spotacular’. Children can come to school dressed in spotty clothing and give a 50p donation.
PTFA NEWS: We would like to apologise for the cancelled Wreath making workshop today (November 11). Unfortunately due to sickness it was impossible to run. The other two planned workshops however will still go ahead so please do come along if you can, we would love to see you.
Winter Fair, Saturday 26 November, 1.00pm- 4.00pm, School Hall: We are still in need of lots of volunteers so if you haven't put your name down for a slot and you can, then please do. Please return the letter that came home in book bags or email email@example.com
We are also now collecting donations of good quality toys, games and books for the toy stall and presents for the present room. These could be unwanted gifts or good condition items that could be given as a gift.
We are also looking for donations of small Christmas decorations that could be used to decorate wreaths and will be collecting cake donations nearer the time. Please bring items to the gate at drop off or school office.

St Mary Redcliffe Church Choir: St Mary Redcliffe Church is seeking its next generation of boy and girl choristers aged 8+. Andrew Kirk, Director of Music visited singing assembly on Friday 4 November and gave out more than 100 choir brochures. Please get in contact with him on 0117 231 0065 if you would like to find out more, or go to one of the open rehearsals on Tuesday 15 November at 6.30pm (boys) or Thursday 17 November at 4.15pm (girls) at the Church. Pupils joining the choir now will have the chance to perform at one of the Christmas Carol Concerts.
Christmas Card Competition: The Mayor of Bristol is inviting children from Bristol primary schools to help design his Christmas e-card for December 2016. The theme is the winter holidays and children are invited to produce a picture of something they enjoy doing over the festive period. Please submit designs on A4 paper in colour with name and class on the back and school will choose an overall KS1 and KS2 winner which will be sent to the Mayor’s office for submission with other schools. Closing dates for designs in school is Friday 18 November.
Community News: Community Lantern Workshops: Create lanterns for the Bedminster Winter Parade at Ashton Vale Community Centre, Risdale Road, BS3 2QY on Saturday 12 November at 1.30-3.30pm.
New Dance Class: Exciting New Kids Dance Workout has been launched on Mondays at Windmill Hill Community Centre, 6-6.45pm. For primary school children who love to dance to Pop, Dance and Bollywood music. Tel: 07800 597718
Charity Collection: One of the children is collecting green bottle tops for the Great Western Air Ambulance charity. There is a collection box in the foyer for washed bottle tops if you have any at home.
