Dear Parents /Carers,
It has been International Week this week in school, we had a wonderful celebration afternoon in the playground yesterday with all the classes showing parents and carers what they have learned and ending with a great Eid party – thank you to the teachers and children for such a brilliant afternoon.
This week Reception classes have been playing Australian animal bingo, and making Indian food. Year 1 have been learning about Kenya and Kenyan animals. In Year 2 they have been learning about Ted Hughes’ ‘Iron Man’ and making clay necklaces from New Zealand. Year 3 have been making Chinese dumplings and salad at Windmill Hill City Farm and writing booklets on maths challenges. Year 4 have been doing some Japanese cooking and doing communication challenges. Year 5 have been sketching rainforest animals and using the netbooks to write tourist brochures on Italy. Year 6 have been making Malaysian food at the Farm and practising for their end of year performance next week.

Year 6 Performance: There are two dates for parents/carers to see the Year 6 play performance: Tuesday 19 July at 2.00pm and Wednesday 20 July at 7.00pm. Tickets for the performances are still available from the school office. They are free, but parents/carers must have a ticket to see the show. A maximum of 2 tickets per child will be available. Unallocated tickets will be available from the office the day before the performances.
International Day and Eid Party: We had a very successful afternoon yesterday, thank you to all who came to the curriculum afternoon and to the Eid party. Thank you as well for all the wonderful donations of food and for your help. So far we have received £833.94 in donations and sales.
After School Clubs and music lessons: All after school clubs and music lessons are now finished for the year. Music lessons will start again the week beginning 12 September 2016. A letter will go out at the beginning of the new term regarding after school club choices.

PTFA NEWS: Family Bike Ride - After school today, Friday 15 July: Meet at 3.30pm outside the playground gate to leave at 3.45pm. We will cycle down the Malago Greenway to Manor Woods. The journey there will take approximately 45 minutes. We will spend an hour in Manor Woods Valley Nature reserve, then cycle back, finishing at about 6.30pm. Families are welcome to head back earlier if they wish. Bring a picnic, something to sit on and wellies to paddle in the stream if you like, or just come along & enjoy the ride! We will be using the marked cycle route, but there are some roads to cross. All children coming on the ride must be accompanied by an adult.
Freewheeling Day: Sat 16th July 1.00pm-4.30pm - School Playground: (use park gate). Bring your bikes or scooters along to the playground for an afternoon of fun on wheels. Free entry. Free games and activities to take part in, on your own bikes and scooters, run by Lifecycle and Sustrans. Free bike safety checks from the Farm Bike Shed Team. Craft activities to decorate your bikes, scooters, cycling helmets and free high-viz tunics for our procession. Trail to follow with prizes for all. Cakes, hot drinks, squash and ice lollies on sale in our cafe. Musical procession around the park at 4pm.
Year 6 Leavers Disco: This was a huge success this week. We would like to say a huge thank you to those who helped; the year 6 children who were involved in the organising, the adult volunteers and the staff, particularly Mr Parkes. The children had a great time dancing and having their pictures taken in Rois's Photo Booth.
Art On The Hill - Saturday 1 October: We are currently in the planning stages of this year’s Art on The Hill. The school will be exhibiting the children’s’ work. This year’s chosen theme is 'Marrimekko' design and textiles. We will be looking for lots of volunteers to help with all stages of this project - from the planning, to helping the children with the art, to volunteering on the day itself. End of Term Picnic: The end of term picnic in the park will be happening as usual on the last day of term after school. Bring a picnic and a blanket and enjoy the chance to get together before we all embark on the summer holidays. Meet on the big grassy bank below Mrs Browns/the children’s playground in Victoria Park. 3.30pm onwards (weather permitting).
