Dear Parents / Carers

 

Learning this week Nursery children have been discovering that ice is frozen liquid and that it can melt!  Reception children have been learning how to make papier mache using paper, glue and balloons.  Children in year 1 have been reading about ‘Lila and the Secret Rain’ which is a tale from Africa.  Year 2 children have been discovering that only even numbers halve exactly.  They have also been learning dances from ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ and ‘Aristocats’.  Year 3 children have been continuing to learn about rocks!  Year 4 children have been posing scientific questions after looking at different images of chocolate in various states of matter.  Year 5 children have been learning about pilgrims and also about how to convert decimals to fractions.  Children in year 6 visited Windmill Hill City Farm to plant apple, pear and plum trees.  They have also been making their lanterns for the parade. Redcliffe Lantern Parade Sat 24 Jan – We are very excited as it’s nearly time! All the children have made fabulous lanterns.  Everyone is really welcome to come along with their family.  Hope to see you there! Children to collect their lanterns at 4.30pm from the Children’s Centre car park in Ship Lane.  The parade will start at 4.45pm.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  Wear warm clothes and waterproofs.  The children may take their lanterns home after the parade.  There will be free refreshments available at the end of the parade – hot soup and roll, tea and flapjacks.

ESOL Classes:  Do you want to improve your English? Do you want to improve your grammar and increase your vocabulary?  We will be running free ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) conversation classes for parents in school this term.  Classes start 4th February 1 pm - 3pm in the School House.  There will be a free creche available for pre-school children. If you are interested please sign up at the school office.

 

Single Parent/Co-Parenting Group: Every Monday, 9.15–10.15 am.  This group has been set up to run every Monday in the School House (next to the KS1 playground).  Please come along for a chat – tea and coffee provided! 

 

PTFA News:  We will be holding our first PTFA meeting of this term on Mon 26 January

9am-10am, in school. Everyone is welcome, please do come. This is your chance to have an input into planning events and to discuss how the money we raise can be used to benefit our children.  It is also a great way to meet other parents. We will be holding other meetings and social events throughout the term.  Please see dates below.  

  • If you would like to join the PTFA mailing list, or would like to get involved, but are unable to attend the meetings, please email us on smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk
  • We will be clearing leaves from the Meadow Flower Slope at the front of the school, today and next Fri (23rd) 1.30-3.30pm. Windmill Hill Community Orchard Wassail at St John’s Burial Ground Sunday 18 January,

4.00 – 6.00pm – Wassail drinks, apple cakes, music and merriment!  Everyone is welcome.

 

Reminders

  • Choir, Stages and Homework After School Clubs are cancelled on Tues 20 January due to staff training after school.  Please collect your children at 3.30pm.
  • Please remember not to smoke in the school grounds.
  • Windmill Close is not to be used by parents’ cars during the period 7.30am to 4.00pm even if the bollard is not in place.
