Dear Parents / Carers
Thank you to all the parents and carers who attended the Curriculum Afternoon on Wednesday. I’m sure you enjoyed seeing what activities the children have been involved with this term. I apologise that you received text notification of the event for the wrong start time.
This week Year 1 have been busy measuring lots of things. Year 2 have been pretending to be Samuel Pepys and have written a diary. They have also been ordering things on a timeline. Year 3 have been busy measuring the parts of the Iron Man and have been correcting grammar and punctuation. Year 4 have been writing non-chronological reports and solving 2-step problems in numeracy. Year 5 have learned how to punctuate speech and multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 whilst Year 6 have been creating their own apps and creating presentations about space.

Attendance: Look out for the latest attendance figures on our website:-
Year 6 Secondary School places. Please remember the deadline for applying for secondary school places is 31 October 2015. This needs to completed on-line. Mr Williams is happy to help with this – just ask at the office and they will pass a message to him.
Reception places 2016. If you, or anyone you know, would like your child to start in our school reception class in September 2016 please ask at the office to arrange a tour of the school with
Ms Payne. Please remember that a place in our nursery does not guarantee your child a place in our reception class – you will need to apply for a place through the Local Authority.
Keeping your Children Safe. The NSPCC have developed a really good resource called PANTS to use to help you talk to your children about how to keep their bodies safe. The link to the web page is http://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keeping-children-safe/underwear-rule/
Please find a useful poster attached.
Food in school. The children are encouraged to eat healthily so please only send fruit or raw vegetables for playtime snacks and no sweets or chocolate in their lunchboxes.
Bikes, Scooters and Skateboards. Please remind your children to be considerate of other park users when they are riding their bikes, scooters and skateboards across the park. It would be helpful if they could get off at the top of the slope and, of course, no cycling, scooter or skateboard riding in the school playground please.
PTFA. Winter Fair, 21st November. We hope you all received a copy of the volunteer letter for the winter fair in your child's book bag. Please could you return this before half term, by Tuesday 20th October, or e-mail us on firstname.lastname@example.org if you are able to help.
Christmas Disco. Are there any parents out there who would be interested in organising the Christmas Disco? The year 6 parents who usually organise this event have now left the school and so in order to run a disco we will need a couple of volunteers to organise it, otherwise the event will not be able to go ahead.
Foreign Coins. Thank you for all your contributions of foreign coins for the friendship benches and coin trail. We have so far received coins from over 30 countries! We are looking to gather as many as possible so if you have any lying around at home please bring them in before half term, there is a collection box above the blue chairs outside the office. Have a lovely holiday.
Many Thanks, Jo, Katie, Lisa, Hannah and Egle (PTFA Committee)
Cross Country Competition, Ashton Park School, Tuesday 20 October, 4.00-5.45 pm. Do we have any Cross Country runners at St. Mary Redcliffe Primary School? We are looking for Year 5/6 children who can run 1600 meters. See Miss Stone for details.
