Dear Parents / Carers
Learning this week Nursery children have started a new topic about ‘Journeys’ and have been learning about a sausage that runs away! Reception children have been learning about the animals in the Rainforest. Children in year 1 have been learning about 3 D shapes. Year 2 children have been looking at the characters and grammar in ‘James and the Giant Peach’. Children in year 3 have been drawing spiders using charcoal and chalk and have been practising their running skills in athletics. Year 4 children have been learning how the heart works and have been checking their heart rates. Children in year 5 have been dissecting a flower and have been looking at the various parts and their functions. Year 6 children have been finishing their illuminated letters and have been practising their forehand technique in tennis.

Radio 2 500 Word Story Competition Audrey in 5 Hawthorn has advanced to the second round of this competition. 120,000 stories were submitted and Audrey’s story was one of 3,800 to be selected. We will find out in May if Audrey has got through to the final. ACTA Performance of ‘Stories’ during the Easter holiday. A huge well done to all the children who acted and their parents’ support for the performance of ‘Stories’, about the history of Redcliffe. The ACTA afterschool club will not continue this term as the club was working towards this performance.
PTFA News: - We are having a PTFA General meeting on Tuesday 21st April from 9-10am which is going to be held in Lime classroom. It would be lovely to see some new faces if you are interested in being involved in events or have ideas or would just like to find out more.
- The PTFA social is being held on Monday 27th April at Mrs Brown’s Cafe in the park at 9am. It is a great opportunity to meet other parents and enjoy a cup of tea in the sunshine so please come along. It is for everybody and we would love to see you!
- The plant sale will be held in the playground on Friday 1st May at 3.30pm. We would really appreciate any donations of plants, these can be flowers, fruit or veg. We will be needing volunteers for this event. If you can help after school on the day then please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
- We are looking to participate again this year in the Windmill Hill Art Trail, on Saturday 3rd October. Last year's event was a huge success! We will need lots of volunteers (artistic or not!). We are looking to run art sessions with each class in the summer term to create the artwork. Please e-mail if you are interested in being involved at email@example.com

Free Talking Energy Workshops As part of Bristol’s Green Capital status in 2015 the Energy Advice Project at Talking Money will be offering a series of free energy efficient workshops to Bristol residents. Proposal to open a sixth form at Fairfield High School - views requested The Governing Body and Excalibur Academies Trust are seeking views on the proposal. Please go to their website to read the proposal and to complete an online survey. The consultation will close on 15 May.
Catapluf’s Musical Journey at Colston Hall is a wonderful family show coming up in May half term, aimed at KS1 children. The audience will learn about music from around the globe as well as how to make music with all sorts of things (Audience participation compulsory)!
