Dear Parents /Carers,


Celebration Assembly – what have we been learning this week?  Nursery classes had a lovely trip to Weston Super Mare.  Reception classes have been learning about adjectives and making aliens and white rockets.  Year 1 have been counting in fives and learned about Victorians and the jobs they had.  Year 2 have made a balloon basket and learned about column addition. Year 3 have been writing persuasive letters and adverts.  Year 4 have been learning weights and Newtons’ and comparing cities in Uganda.  Year 5 have made posters in the style of boxing promotion posters and had drama by acting out Hercules’ Labours.  Year 6 have been writing adventure stories and been making prototypes for Enterprise Week.

Child of Hope Sponsorship: Thank you to all who have brought in sponsorship money for Child of Hope.  We raised a magnificent £1267.15, and we really appreciate all the children’s hard work.


Sports Days:  Unfortunately due to bad weather sports days were cancelled this week.  We shall try again next week.  Parents and carers are welcome to watch (but please no dogs).

School of Sanctuary: Great news! We have been awarded the status of ‘School of Sanctuary’. I will put the letter for you to read on the website but we have been commended on our ‘excellent work… in the field of diversity and welcome’.  We are very proud!


SMSA Position Advertised: We are advertising for an SMSA to start in September.  If you are interested in the position please look for details on our website or or talk to Mrs. Swinford in the school office.


Sainsbury’s Vouchers:  Thank you for all the Sainsbury’s vouchers you have brought in so far.  The deadline for collecting them is Thursday 30 June.  If you have any more vouchers please bring them in, there is a collection box in reception.


Scooters/Bikes in the Playground:  Please can we remind you that scooting and cycling are not permitted in the playground.  On Monday afternoon at going home time one of the younger children was hurt because children were riding in the playground.


Breakfast Club:  The children who use breakfast club have been enjoying making pop-poms but have nearly run out of wool.  If anyone has any spare wool they can donate to breakfast club, please leave it at the office.


PTFA News: PTFA General Meeting: Friday 24 June, 9.00am-10.00am, kitchen in the Year 4/5 block. Come along and hear about our up and coming events and how you can get involved, everyone is welcome. Tea and coffee will be provided. 

Freewheeling Week: Monday 11 - Sat 16 July. This is going to be a fantastic week of fun on wheels. There will be all sorts of activities for everyone. Monday 11 July there will be a bike swap after school, Friday 15 July there will be the opportunity for the children to ride their bikes or scoot to school and have breakfast and there will also be a family bike ride along the Malago Greenway. Saturday 16 July will be Freewheeling Day 1pm-4pm in the school playground. This is going to be a fun day for all. There will be cycling games, free bike maintenance, a bike trail in the park, craft activities, tea and cake and a decorated bike/scooter parade. We are looking for volunteers to help on Saturday 16 with running the cake stall and with the craft activities and the bike trail. There are various time slots (12.45pm-2.45pm or 2.30pm-4.30pm) at the event, 10am-1pm to help with setting up and 4.15pm-6pm for clearing up. We would also appreciate any donations of cakes or savouries for the cake stall and if there are any musicians out there who can give up an hour of their time we would be very grateful. Eid Celebration: Thursday 14 July, 3.30pm onwards, school playground. We will be looking for volunteers to help run a cake stall at this years’ Eid Celebration. If you can help please contact the PTFA at

Air Ambulance Service Collection: Thomas is collecting green plastic milk bottle tops for the Air Ambulance Service.  Please bring any clean lids to school and put in the box in the foyer.


Bristol Old Vic Young Company:  Billy, Stan and Malachy are performing in ‘Under A Cardboard Sea’, a Bristol old Vic Young Company production, 4-6 August and they would love you to come and watch. For more information please visit


Community News: 

Windmill Hill community Orchard Fete: Sunday 19 June 2-5pm.  There is a community event in the orchard, St. John’s Burial Ground, Cotswold Road.  All welcome for cream teas, cakes and refreshments as well as circus skills, face painting, crafts and much more.
