Dear Parents / Carers
Visit by Teacher Mike from Uganda Thank you to everyone for making Mike so welcome at our school. He really enjoyed his time with us and is going back with plenty of ideas to develop the teaching at Child of Hope. Miss Price and Miss Swift are returning to Uganda in July and will be helping him implement any changes. We would be grateful if you could donate any stationery items (stickers and colourful stationery) that we could take with us. They really make a huge difference to the children – thank you for your generosity.
Learning this week Nursery children have been reading the story about a snail and a whale! They have also been creating fabulous Nikki De St Phalle sculptures which are a surprise for Wednesday – whole school ‘Art Day’. Reception children have been learning about the planets and space and have been writing sentences about what they have learnt. Year 1 children travelled back in time and met Florence Nightingale – the lady with the lamp. Children in year 2 have been making papier mache sculptures, also for Art Day, and have been learning what the seaside was like in the past. Children in year 3 have been looking at different buildings and working out how they could recreate them by adding and subtracting their capacity. Year 4 children have been preparing Ugandan projects and adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. Children in year 5 have been learning how to use ‘modal’ verbs in sentences and how to use percentages in numeracy. Year 6 children have also been making sculptures for Art Day - using socks!

There will be loads of free entertainment, a children's open mic session and circus skills or come for afternoon tea or strawberries and cream. There will be face painting and loads of other games and stalls. There are some amazing raffle prizes this year, including champagne, a spa day, activity days, meal vouchers, swim tickets, train tickets and a Red Point climbing session. We really appreciate all the support you have given us in organising this year’s fair and all the donations that you have brought in. Without you these events would not happen. So come along on Saturday and enjoy the fun, there will be something for everyone! We hope to see you all there.
Art Day - Weds 24th June, all day. The Art Day is fast approaching! You may have noticed lots of work going on behind the scenes as the children have been building their brilliant Nikki de Saint Phalle sculptures this week with the help of their teachers and some wonderful parent volunteers who have given up their time to come into school and help. Please, if you haven't already volunteered to help, either on the day or on Monday or Tuesday next week, then do speak to your child’s class teacher about coming in to help in the class. Both the teachers and the children really do appreciate any time you can give, it really does make a difference. There is still a lot of papier mache to be done next week so please bring in any old newspaper you might have at home. Thank you so much for all your help and support.
Many Thanks, Jo, Katie, Lisa, Hannah and Egle (PTFA Committee)
