Dear Parents / Carers
Learning this week Nursery children have been continuing the ‘Frozen’ theme by making penguins and snowmen from various materials. Reception children were pretending to be palaeontologists - instead of discovering dinosaur bones, the children were extracting chocolate chips from biscuits with wooden tools! Children in year 1 have been reading the Anansi Stories and then writing and performing their own stories. Year 2 children have been learning to divide by 3,4 and 5. Using the netbooks to research facts about the Brazilian Rainforest has been one of the topics for year 3 children. Year 4 children have had a ‘Chocolate Quest’ from which they have learnt about chocolate. Year 5 and 6 children had an exciting ‘CSI’ (Crime Scene Investigations) day in school.

Hope to see you there! Children to collect their lanterns at 4.30pm from the Children’s Centre car park in Ship Lane. The parade will start at 4.45pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Wear warm clothes and waterproofs. The children may take their lanterns home after the parade. There will be free refreshments available at the end of the parade – hot soup and roll, tea and flapjacks.
Attendance: Look out for the latest attendance figures on our website:-
www.stmaryredcliffeprimary.co.uk Please note that our website now has a ‘translator’ button on the ‘Home’ page which allows text to be translated from English.
Free School Meals. If you think your child may be entitled to receive free schools meals please either come to the school office or go to www.bristol.gov.uk/fsm to apply. It is very important that anyone who is entitled applies for free school meals as the school receives extra funding towards the children’s education. All information that you provide is, of course, confidential. Please remember that even if you apply for free school meals your child does not have to have school dinners – you can continue to provide them with a packed lunch if you wish. This includes Reception, year 1 and year 2 children (even though they get a free lunch!)
ESOL Classes: Do you want to improve your English? Do you want to improve your grammar and increase your vocabulary? We will be running free ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) conversation classes for parents in school this term. Classes start 4th February 1 pm - 3pm in the School House. There will be a free creche available for pre-school children. If you are interested please sign up at the school office.
