23rd September 2016

Dear Parents /Carers,

This week the whole school took part in an art day creating Marimekko work for Art on the Hill next weekend.  Thank you to the teachers who organised this and the parents who came and helped in class.

Also this week Year 1 have been finding out how to find buried treasure and year 2 have been learning about number bonds. Year 3 have been writing a diary pretending to be Hogarth from ‘The Iron Man’. Year 4 have been writing descriptions about a place and editing them.  Year 5 have been learning about football and continuing to read ‘Stormbreaker’.  Year 6 have been making rockets using balloons and toilet rolls and also writing their own balanced arguments – should Darth Vader become a teacher at our school?

Teachers and children will be updating their class pages on the website every Friday, do look at what they are all learning. http://www.stmaryredcliffeprimary.co.uk/class-pages/

Keeping your child safe online: The NSPCC has a great site https://www.net-aware.org.uk/ for checking out the age appropriateness of social networks and apps your children use.  Now also available as an app to download.  There is also lots of useful information on our website too. http://www.stmaryredcliffeprimary.co.uk/keeping-your-child-safe-online-and-on-social-media

Message from the School Counsellor: My name is Jinny Paige and I am the new school counsellor. As many of you know, the school has a counselling service provided by The Bridge Foundation for Psychotherapy and the Arts. Some of you will have known Tulin Bedri the former school counsellor. I look forward to meeting some of you in the future.

Guinea Pig News: Our guinea pigs Stevie and Squeakers had a great time staying at Windmill Hill City Farm over the summer.  We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all the staff at the Farm for taking such good care of them.  They returned briefly to school last week but are now back at the Farm temporarily!  This is because we have decided to improve their accommodation here to give them more space.  Once this is organised they will return, in the meantime please call in to the Farm to say hello.
