Dear Parents / Carers
For the first time this year we are distributing this newsletter by email to the majority of our parents and carers. I am sorry it has taken so long for the suppliers of our communication system to sort out the glitch which has prevented us doing this earlier. If you currently receive a hard copy of the newsletter and would prefer it to be emailed, please let the office know your email account.
Over this week and next all the children in Years 1-6 will receive a 10 minute one-to-one academic mentoring session with their teacher. This is an exciting opportunity for them to talk about their learning and what they need to do next. This will take place every term.

Assessment Meeting, Tuesday 6 October, 6.15-7.15 pm. We would like to share with you how we are assessing children’s learning in the new curriculum and how we aim to improve our school this year. All Welcome.
Use of Language. Please be aware that children pick up on the aggressive language and behaviour that adults use. Please remember this when you are with your childen.
ESOL Classes For Parents. Our popular ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) class is running again this year. If you would like to improve your English come along on Wednesday 30 September, 1.00-3.00pm. Free creche for pre-school children is available. If you are interested please see the school office.
Parenting Course 2 October to 11 December. Places are available for a 9 week parenting course at school on Fridays, 9.00 to 11.00. This will offer advice and practical strategies for managing your child’s behaviour. Please contact Mr Williams, our Family Link Worker, or come to the school office for further information and to book a place. Free crèche available.
Early Years Entrance. Please remember that the early years entrance is only for the use of early years children and their parents and carers. If other children come through this way into school it is very likely they will miss being registered or recorded in the late book.
We need your help! 1)Please remember School Census Day Next Thursday, 1 October and encourage your child to eat a school meal - pizza, hotdogs, burgers in a bun (vegetarian halal options), salad bar, jelly, ice cream and fruit. Please order on Monday.
2) On a very different note, if any one has any old/outgrown socks, tights, school trousers, skirts, underwear the early years classes would really appreciate them for when ‘accidents’ occur.
Year 6 Secondary School places. Please remember the deadline for applying for secondary school places is 31 October 2015. This needs to completed on-line. Mr Williams is happy to help with this – just ask at the office and they will pass a message to him.
Early Years. Thank you from the Early Years Team to all the parents and carers for their patience at the end of the sessions as it takes so long to get all the children ready at this stage in the year.
Reception places 2016. If you, or anyone you know, would like your child to start in our school reception class in September 2016 please ask at the office to arrange a tour of the school with Ms Payne. Please remember that a place in our nursery does not guarantee your child a place in our reception class – you will need to apply for a place through the Local Authority.
PTFA. Art on The Hill Exhibition, Saturday Oct, 10am - 4pm - We are nearly there! Entry at the gate in the top playground. We have had lots of volunteers, thank you so much to those of you who have offered to help. We are still in need of a couple of people to help us set up on Saturday morning from 8am until 10am and to help us clear up afterwards from 4pm until 6pm. Please, if you think you can help with either of these slots, e-mail us on firstname.lastname@example.org
As of Monday morning (28th) we are going to be collecting the bits of nature that you have all been gathering at the top gate. Don't forget to keep your eyes open for interesting things when you are playing in the park this weekend or walking to school next week. Things such as: pine cones, seeds, berries, conkers, acorns, tree bark, use your imagination and see what you can find! Please bring cake donations to the office on Friday 2 October or bring them to school on the day of the exhibition. This is going to be a brilliant day, the children have all worked so hard to produce this amazing art work. There will be workshops, screen printing, kite making, nature mandalas, and a vintage cafe and cake stall.
Lost Property. This week Mr Williams has returned all named lost property. He still has a box of un-named jumpers so if your child is missing a jumper, you are welcome to come and find one from the box. Please remember to name all clothing in school.
If anyone has found a red metal tin containing Pokemon cards please return it to the school office.
Residents Parking Zone. Please note that the Residents Parking Zone in Southville and Bedminster is now in force. Please look out for the signs and parking meters.
Parking at school. Please remember you cannot park on white lines, pavements, white and yellow zig-zag lines or anywhere in Windmill Close between 7.30 am and 6.00 pm.
