Dear Parents / Carers


Learning this week Nursery children have been practising rhymes and making patterns.  Reception children have been reading about Goldilocks and the Three Bears and learning about money in numeracy. Year 1 children took part in an Internet Safety Workshop and have also been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. Children in year 2 have been learning their 5 times table and the poem ‘The Owl and the Pussycat’.  Year 3 children have been learning to draw bar charts in numeracy and to help them investigate their topic this term they have been playing games! Year 4 children have been learning how to ‘round’ numbers in numeracy and they have been making their own chocolate bars!  Children in year 5 have been busy measuring angles and writing a set of instructions.  Year 6 children have been writing a newspaper report about the signs of the Zodiac and have been making a dragon for Chinese New Year.

Comic Relief Friday 13 March Red noses will be on sale from next week for £1.


World Book Day Thursday 5 March Children can come to school dressed as a favourite book character and bring in a donation for Book Aid. There are some good ideas for costumes at  Staff will be dressing up too!  All children will have the chance to visit the library for the PTFA book sale so please make sure your child brings 50p.  There will be reading competitions and exciting activities happening in school on the day. All children will bring home a £1 World Book Day voucher on Friday to spend by 29th March (see WORLDBOOKDAY.COM/BOOKS). The PTFA have kindly organised a visit for years 3 – 6 to see a performance of ‘Sammy and the Snow Leopard’ on Tuesday 3 March. They have also paid for storyteller, Martin Maudsley to come into school on Thursday 12 March for Early Years and Years 1 and 2.


Reminders –

Afterschool Clubs There will be no afterschool clubs next week on Wed 4 March and Thur 5 March due to the Parent /Teacher meetings.  Please collect your children at 3.30pm on these days.

Year 3 Swimming There will be no swimming for year 3 children on Tuesday 3 March as they will be watching the ‘Sammy and the Snow Leopard’ performance. (See above for more details)

Nursery A few Nursery places are still available if your child is 3 before 31 August 2015.  Please apply NOW – we’d love to have you!

Parents’ Evening Appointments – Mon 2 Mar is the last chance for booking on line. Please contact the office to make your appointment after this date.


PTFA News:

  • Book Stall - We will be running our 50p book stall during the school day on World Book Day (Thurs 5 March).  Children will visit the stall a class at a time.  Please make sure your child brings 50p to school on Thurs morning, or give it to their class teacher.  We will need donations of pre-loved books please.  Books should be suitable for ages 3-11 and in good condition.  Please hand in at the office, or bring to the top gate Mon, Tues or Wed AM.
  • Seed donations needed.  We would love donations of flower and vegetable seeds for us to grow on for our plant sale in May. Please bring these to the school office by the end of next week or hand in at the top gate Mon, Tues or WedWe will be asking for plant donations for our sale on the 1st May, so please bare us in mind if you have extra seedlings!
  • General Meeting: There will be a PTFA general meeting on Tues 3 March 9am-10am in the school house.  Please come along to find out about future events and fundraising plans.  Everyone welcome.
  • Vice Chair/Secretary role: We will be voting in new committee members at the AGM and are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who would like to consider either the Vice Chair or Secretary role.  Please come to the meeting next week for further details if you are interested. ACTA Community Theatre will be performing their Redcliffe Community play ‘Stories’ on Tues 31 March, Wed1 April and Thur 2 April at 7.00pm at St Mary Redcliffe & Temple Secondary School.  Tickets only £2.  For more details contact the ACTA Centre in Gladstone Street, Bedminster, BS3 3AY
