Dear Parents /Carers,
Learning this week: In school this week Reception classes have been learning about the author Julia Donaldson and ‘The Gruffalo’. Year 1 have been learning about the stories, ‘Anansi and The Tug of War’ and ‘The King of the Fishes’. Year 2 have been learning to tell the time and have written a diary entry about ‘The Magic Paintbrush’. Year 3 have been measuring the perimeter of shapes and reading ‘Jemmy Button’. Year 4 have been writing their own letters in the voice of Michael from ‘Zuki’s Kingdom’ and in art they have been making chocolate factory collages. In Maths Year 5 have been adding decimals and in English they have been reading ‘The London Eye Mystery’. In Year 6 they have been learning about ratio in maths and in science they have been counting their heart beats and learning about breathing.

Interim Deputy Head Teacher: The children were all pleased to welcome Claire Ward (our new Interim Deputy Head Teacher) in assembly this week.
Appropriate Cold Weather Clothes: Children will still be doing PE outside as long as it is dry and not slippery. As it is very cold at the moment so please can you make sure children bring an extra jumper or sweatshirt for PE lessons. Thank you.
Years 1-6 Parent/Carer Maths Evening: Wednesday 1 February 6.00-7.00pm – School hall: Up for discussion is how maths is being taught in school with a focus on times tables. There will be examples of investigations and games and ideas about how to support your child at home. All welcome, please fill out the form on the letter that is going home in your child’s book bag today.
Muslim Parent/Carer Meeting: If you have any questions about the recent OFSTED report or the academisation of the school please come to a meeting at 9.00am in the school hall on Thursday 2 February. Miss Swift will be there to talk about the recent news and the process and can answer any questions. There will be a crèche for pre-school children.
PTFA News: PTFA Social, Friday 3rd February, 9.00am onwards at Windmill Hill City Farm cafe. Come along for a cuppa and a chat. The more the merrier, everyone welcome!
Cake and Uniform Sale, Monday 6th February, 3.30pm in the School Hall. We would really appreciate any donations of cakes and are looking for volunteers. Please contact the PTFA on firstname.lastname@example.org if you can help.
We are also going to be looking for volunteers for various gardening activities around the school so watch this space!

Community News: VPAG Star Party this Sunday 29 January from 6.30-8.00pm.
There will be telescopes in the park if the skies are clear to look at various stars & planets. In St Michael and All Angels Church on Vivian Street there will be an Explorer Dome which is an inflatable planetarium as well story telling about various constellations. If it’s cloudy or wet, the event will still go ahead with activities based in the church. Spaces in the Explorer Dome will be limited so please book via email at email@example.com to avoid disappointment.
Windmill Hill and Victoria Park Window Wonderland – Saturday 4th and 5th March – 6.00-9.00pm:
This is a free community art event, please visit http://www.windowwanderland.com/event/windmill-hill-victoria-park-2017 for more information. Mrs Herbertson will be running special art lessons to help create window displays in school. Please look out for a letter going home about this and volunteer to help out in class if you can.
