Dear Parents / Carers

 

Welcome to the new school year.  We hope you had a lovely holiday.  The children are happy to be back and are starting to settle well into their new classes.  During assembly today I asked them what is awesome about their new classes and this is what they told me:-

 

6 Hawthorn love their new Clevertouch board; 6 Ash are pleased with their new teacher.

5 Poplar love their Clevertouch board and 5 Sycamore love the new telephone system.

4 Larch like their new big classroom and are excited that they may be visiting Cadbury World for one of their topics.  4 Hazel are pleased to have the biggest classroom, a lovely teacher and lots of books!

3 Apple have a fab teacher and a new big classroom and 3 Cherry are pleased to have a new teacher who is also new to the school.

2 Juniper are happy to be with all their friends while 2 Willow are finding it a bit different and strange but they like it.

1 Elm said “It’s fun” and 1 Lime like being in their new class because it’s different

 

You will see quite a few new faces in school this year so here are their names of the people you may meet:-

Being new in post is a challenge for everybody but we would ask you to be especially patient when dealing with the school office.  The new ladies in post are doing a grand job but obviously have a steep learning curve to replace the expertise of the staff who left.

 

During the Inset days the staff undertook training on equalities, how to safeguard against radicalisation as required by law and how to use the new Clevertouch screens now fitted to all classrooms. 

 

School has been a very busy place during the holidays - work undertaken has included classroom and corridor decoration, the installation of a new telephone system, and Clevertouch screens, setting up a new Sensory Room, installing play lofts and the start of a very exciting extension to the Early Year area. 

 

Free School Meals  Year 3 children are no longer entitled to Universal Free School Meals.

If you receive certain benefits you may be entitled to apply for free school meals – please ask at the school office for help with this.

 

A few housekeeping rules!

  • Please do not bring pushchairs inside the school building – there is just not enough space!

  • The Early Years and Foundation Stage entrance door is only to be used by the parents/carers of children in nursery and reception classes

  • If your child arrives late at school they must come in via the office so that we can ensure the registers are all recorded accurately

  • Telephone calls to the school – Please listen carefully to the message when you ring the school and select the destination of your call.

    Press 1 to report a child’s absence (messages can be left at any time of the day or evening)

    Press 2 to speak to the kitchen (NB the staff in the kitchen are not able to pass on any call to this number – you will have to redial and choose the correct destination)

    Press 3 for school information (eg pre-recorded message re closure etc)

    If you know an extension number please dial it now

    For all other enquiries, please hold.

     

    Attendance:  Please remember that holidays are no longer authorised and, if over 3 days, will be subject to a penalty notice, If your child is absent for more than 3 days we will need medical evidence.  This can be an appointment card or prescription or letter from the doctor.

 

PTFA News: -

  • Tea and Coffee welcome for new parents, Weds 9th September, 9.15am-10.15am & 2.15pm-3.15pm in the School Hall. All new parents and carers, reception, nursery or other years, are very welcome to come to either session.   You can come while your child is settling into their class, or bring your children with you.   We also need volunteers to serve tea and coffee and to just chat and be welcoming.  It would be especially helpful to have some of last year's reception and nursery parents along to talk to this year's new parents so if you can spare even half an hour then please do. 

  • We will be selling second hand uniform and would love donations of outgrown items that are still in a good condition. Ages 3-6 would be particularly useful. Please hand into the school office before Wed 9th September.  

  • Art On The Hill, Saturday October 3rd. We will be exhibiting the fantastic work that all of your children produced (with the help of lots of you wonderful volunteers!) for this year’s Art on The Hill trail, so please do come along. We are still looking for volunteers to help on the day and also to help with setting up on the 2nd October after school. Please contact us on smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk if you can help.
