Welcome back to the new term and what a busy one it will be. Today, years 1,2 and 3 are finally having their Sports Day in the park – the sun shone at last!   We are really excited that  headteacher, Mike, from Child of Hope, Uganda is going to spend 2 weeks with us from next week learning about education in the UK.

National Book Tokens for School We have sent out an email asking parents to click on the following link to enter a giveaway by National Book Tokens Win upto £5000 National Book Tokens for the school library – maybe also ask your friends and family to have a go! We could win lots of books for school.

 

PTFA News:

  • Summer Fair Meeting, Tues 9th June, 2.30-3.30pm in the School House. Please come along to this meeting if you can(Tea and coffee will be provided). We would really appreciate as many people as possible getting involved. We still need more volunteers to help out on the day of the fair with lots of different activities and stalls. This is going to be a fantastic day but we can't run it without you. Please, if you can spare even an hour then we would be very grateful. Please contact smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk if you can help at all. We will be collecting donations of toys, books, uniform and sweets the week after next on all the gates in the mornings. 
  • Summer Fair, Saturday 20th June, 2.00-5.00pm in the Playground. The fair is going to be a brilliant day, there will be games, stalls, afternoon tea, bouncy castles and lots more. Please do come along for a fun filled afternoon and support your school in the process.
  • Art Day, Weds 24th June. A huge thank you to everyone who has volunteered to come and help the children on their Art Day and to all those who have offered to come in over the next two weeks and help the children begin their sculptures. We are hoping to have volunteers from every class so if you haven't yet offered to help it is not too late and we would really appreciate it. Please speak to your class teacher or contact smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk if you can spare even an hour of your time. We are looking for donations of newspaper, bottle tops, corks, brightly coloured sweet wrappers and small toys (such as cars, lego figures etc). Please can you bring these to the school office.

Playpod You may have seen the green shed in the playground – this is our new ‘Playpod’.  The staff are being trained in how to use the equipment and the children are very excited and looking forward to playing with the items stored in the ‘Playpod’.

 

Do you run your own business?  Year 6 children would like to hear from you as this term they are taking part in an Enterprise Project and learning how to make money!  They would be grateful for your ideas and tips.  Please contact the school office if you can come and talk to the children.

Bristol Half Marathon One of our parents, Qerim Nuredini, on behalf of Refugee Action is looking for volunteers to help marshal the Bristol Half Marathon on 13th September  or even run the race for Refugee Action. If you are interested please contact the office and we will pass your details on.

 

Bristol Ultimate Taster Session Want to try out a different sport? There will be an Ultimate frisbee taster afternoon this Saturday, 6th June, from 2pm - 5pm at South Bristol Sports Centre (West Town Lane, BS14 9EA).  Learn how to throw like a pro, try a game of ultimate frisbee, learn more about this fantastic sport and meet some of the local players! Children and adults welcome, although it is best for ages 7/8 and up.  Free to attend although a voluntary contribution to cover pitch hire would be appreciated! Suggested contribution is £2 per adult or £5 per family. To learn more, email bristol.ultimate@gmail.com

 

Say No To Female Genital Mutilation If you think a girl or woman is at risk of FGM or ‘cutting’ – you must contact the police on 101. It is against the law to carry out this procedure in the UK or another country. You can get more information on www.bava.org.uk

 

Reminders Just a reminder that all after school clubs finish at 16.30 except Art Club which finishes at 16.45 and Cooking Club which finishes at 17.00. Please note also that we will be using email as well as text to send messages to parents.

 

And last but not least..... Mr Sykes will be leaving us at the end of this term.  We thank him for all his work and enthusiasm while he has been here. He will be moving on to a new school in September and we wish him well and send him good luck for his future.
