Dear Parents / Carers

Learning this week Nursery children have been learning to be ‘firefighters’ by using water pumps and hoses, climbing ladders (with Mrs Knights very close by) and following the journeys of fire engines.  A huge well done to everyone in years 1 to 6 for taking part in our election.  After we counted the results this morning the winners were Team Toucan, in second place was The Gold Team and in third place The Twelve Musketeers.  Therefore, Team Toucan will be able to put their ideas into action spending £300 to improve the school.  Reception held their own election to decide what they wanted to make next week. – smoothies, biscuits or flapjacks – the winner was biscuits!

Sports Day Unfortunately Year 1, 2 and 3 Sports Days had to be postponed this week due to wet weather. Safety must come first and although it was not raining, on inspection the ground was wet and slippery.  We will now wait for a break in the weather to have our Sports Day and give as much notice as possible to parents and carers.  Thank you for your patience.

Book Fair School Hall, Monday 18 May – Thursday 21 May 3.30pm – 4.00pm.  Today your child will have taken home a leaflet which shows a small selection of the titles available at our Book Fair.  Please come along to the hall and browse and buy some books.  Every book you buy helps us buy new books for school.  You can also click and collect at www.travellingbooks.co.uk.

Free Apple or Pear Tree  As part of Bristol Green Capital 2015 your child will bring home a leaflet inviting you to grow a small fruit tree in your garden, allotment or large plot.  If you are interested please complete the form on the reverse side of the leaflet and return it to the school office.  If you do not have space, we will have the opportunity to plant trees in the park, so your child can still plant a tree.  So do request one!

 PTFA News: -

  • Our plant Sale went really well last Friday and we raised £181.  Thank you so much to Alex and Helen for organising and a big thank you to all of you who donated plants and who came along to buy them. We would also like to thank Riverside Garden Centre for their very generous donation of seeds. Happy gardening!
  • Simone is presently re-seeding the meadow flower bank at the front of the school, but she really needs some help.  Is anybody free to help on either Wed 2-3.30pm, Fri 1-3pm or Sun 2-4pm?  We won't do all three sessions, so please email smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk or leave a message at the school office with your contact details and availability, so that we can choose the best date.
  • PTFA Social, Fri 15th May from 9am at Mrs Browns cafe.  We would welcome any new faces. Please come along for a cuppa (hopefully in the sunshine!)
  • Summer Fair, Sat 20th June.  The summer fair is fast approaching and we will need lots of volunteers to help run stalls on the day.  We also need one more person to help source raffle prizes. Please e-mail smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk if you can help.
  • Art Day, Weds 24th June. This is looking set to be a really fun day of art for the children. We will be producing some large colourful sculptures, inspired by the work of Niki de Saint Phalle. We really do need volunteers for the art day to help with painting and decorating the sculptures. We are also looking for parents who might be able to come in for an afternoon over the weeks before to help create the structures with the children so that they are ready to be painted and decorated on the art day. We will need help in every class and will really appreciate any time you can give, you don’t need to be an artist, just willing to get involved, it will be fun! Please e-mail smr_ptfa@hotmail.co.uk if you can help.

Many Thanks, Jo, Katie, Lisa, Hannah and Egle (PTFA Committee)
