Dear Parents /Carers,

 

Learning This Week:  In Reception this week children have been learning tricky two-letter sounds in phonics and rehearsing for their Christmas performance.  Year 1 have written the ending to their ‘alien problem’ story and learned how to solve missing number problems.  Year 2 have written an account of their forest trip.  Year 3 have been learning about ‘turns’ in angles and writing a non-chronological report about volcanoes.  Year 4 have been investigating sounds with science equipment and finding tenths of shape and money.  Year 5 have been learning about fractions, decimals and percentages and also looking at biographies.  Year 6 have been writing news reports and learning to divide and multiply fractions.

Reception Admission – September 2017: Parents/carers with children born between 01 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 are now able to make an application for reception admission in September 2017.  The guide for parents/carers is available on-line at www.bristol.gov.uk/schoolsadmissions for you to view and download. The closing date for all applications is midnight 15 January 2017.

 

Parent Meeting: A meeting to discuss the process and implications of academisation for the school will be held at 6pm on Thursday 5 January 2017. All current and prospective parents and carers welcome.

 

Christmas Performance Tickets: There are still some tickets left for Christmas performances, except for

KS1 (Years 1 and 2) Friday afternoon performance and LKS2 (Years 3 and 4) evening performances which are sold out.  If you have put your name down on a waiting list for tickets, the office will let you know by email the day before the performance if there are any available.

Christmas Food Bank Donations:  The collectors of the food bank donations would like to thank everyone for their generous donations.

 

Community News: Filwood Quietway Cycle Path: - A planning application has now been lodged for a 4.7m wide cycle path through Victoria Park and along Windmill Close.  The route will significantly change some aspects of the park. VPAG Events: Fantasy Orchestra: The fabulous Fantasy Orchestra will be returning for a performance at St Michael's Church, Saturday 17 Dec, 7:30pm. They will be performing an Argentinian Folk Nativity and other exotic music. Mulled wine, mince pies and other refreshments will be available. Carols in the Park: St Michael's Church will be leading us again in Christmas Carols in front of Mrs Brown’s cafe at 6.00pm on Monday 19 December. Please wrap up warm and come and join us. A collection for Crisis Centre Ministries will be held.

Windmill Hill City Farm: Winter Fair, Saturday 10 December, 11.00am – 4.00pm: The day will include: live festive music from local choirs and bands, Farmer Tim’s BBQ, BEATS street food, Crystal Grotto, magical wishing tree, mulled wine, spiced cider and seasonal goodies, locally sourced Christmas trees for sale, a gift market from the Home Grown Shop, Twinkly Willow Fairy wand making from ‘Floriograpy’ and camp fire cooking.
