Dear Parents / Carers
Learning this week During ‘Black History Month’ nursery children have been learning about Madam C J Walker who created and sold hair products to African Americans. The children had their own hair salon in the classroom! Reception children are excited about their first trip to Forest School today. They have also been learning about The Little Red Hen story. Children in year 1 have been learning to write in complete sentences and learning the difference between past and present tenses. Year 2 children have been learning about The Great Fire of London from Samuel Pepys’ diary. Children in year 3 have been reading about Thomas Edison and learning about his invention of the electric light bulb. Year 4 children spent a day as Vikings and made shields and baked oat biscuits. Children in year 5 have been investigating the various features of news reports and have been writing their own news stories. Following their visit to the National Space Centre last week, children in year 6 have been designing booklets in preparation for the Curriculum afternoon.

PTFA News Our first Winter Fair planning meeting will be held this Wed 22nd Oct 9am-10am in the top kitchen (year 4 and 5 building). Please come straight to the kitchen after drop off, or meet by the school office and someone will walk you up. The Fair is on Sat 29th Nov - we will need lots of help to make it a success. If you have an idea for a stall you would like to run, or if you would like to offer to help, please come to the meeting, or email email@example.com. Everyone will be very welcome and it is fine to bring young children to the meeting with you. We will need lots of volunteers for the day itself, but we will also need people to help with preparation on the weeks leading up to the fair (sourcing raffle prizes, putting up posters, wrapping grotto presents, collecting donations on the gates, preparing games and food). Any help you can give would be brilliant! A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the Art On The Hill Art Exhibition and Workshop Day on Sat 4th Oct and to all of you who came along to take part. It was a fantastic event and we had lots of delicious cake donations for the cafe - thank you! The exhibition of Matisse inspired art that the children had done was stunning. Thank you so much to the parents who led these sessions in the classes in June and July. The workshops on the day were really inspiring and lots of fun. Children and parents produced some beautiful Art work. Well done to DB for leading this project. The Matisse exhibition is up in the school reception area and school hall, so please do pop in and see it, if you couldn't make it on the day. Time-lapse film and photos of the event will be available on the school website soon. Many thanks, Jo, Alex, Sarah & Katy (PTFA)
