Week 5 29/6/15
What a great day out we had in Weston-Super-Mare! Have a look at our pictures.
We have spent the last few weeks working on an exciting art project. We have been looking at the sculptures of Niki De St Phalle and we have made our own giant whale in her style.
We started off using papier mache and then covered it in mud roc. When it was dry we painted it using bright colours and patterns similar to Niki De St Phalle.
We have also all made our own little whale and decorated them. They look amazing! Come in and have a look!
Don't forget we are going to Weston next Wednesday!
Welcome back! What a rainy week it has been! Luckily for us our topic this term is Water! We have been learning the story of Noah's Ark and we made our own Ark which is on display on the wall outside the classroom-have a look. It is great.
We have been thinking about all the places you might find water, how you can travel on water and what creatures live in water.
We are planning a trip too. We are going to Weston- Super-Mare for a day at the beach!! We are very excited. A letter will be sent home next week with all the details.
Fireman Sam went on holiday this week so he asked us if we would cover him whilst he was away. We took the 999 calls and went in our fire engines to put out the fires! We were a great team. We learnt about what equipment a fire fighter would have and all about fire engines.
Have a look at our pictures.
We have been learning all about Tractors and cars this week. We made a new car for Meg and Mog after they crashed their car. We investigated how to make their car go faster going down ramps.
This week we read 'Rosie's Walk' and Rosie sent us a letter to ask us help her find the naughty fox. So we went on a walk around the school to try and find him.
What a busy start to the new term! Our new topic is all about Journeys and this week we heard a story about a sausage that went on a journey! We listened to the Runaway Dinner by Allan Alberg. Banjo's dinner went missing so we decided to make him some more. We drew our favourite foods and also made meals out of clay. We have also been learning about shapes and we made some great pictures using different shapes.
This week there was a hungry fox in the Nursery! He was looking for the Gingerbread man. We had fun cooking and decorating our own Gingerbread men. They were delicious!
We also had our first parents to stay and play with us. Sign up for your turn if you haven't done so already.
This week Humpty Dumpty needed our help. He wanted to know if we could think of ways to stop him breaking every time he fell off the wall.
We came up with lots of ideas. We tried catching him in net and putting a pillow on the ground when he fell.
We also tried putting him a bags with rice, bubble wrap and water. One of them stopped him from breaking. Can you guess which? Come into Nursery and find out or ask your child!
Someone came into Nursery on Monday and stole Ms Loosley's breakfast! It was a lovely bowl of porridge so we think it might have been Goldilocks.
We decided to make some more porridge and we all tasted some. It was delicious and we added honey and raisins too.
We also had to make a new bed and chair for baby bear and we made some story maps and made up our own versions of Goldilocks.
On Wednesday we celebrated World Book Day early and we all came to school dressed as our favourite book characters.

Then on Wednesday morning all our parents and carers came in to see us tell our Polar Bear Hunt story and look at our Learning Diaries.
Have a look at our pictures!
We think that there may be a polar bear hidng in school this week! A fish we left out has been taken and so has all our fruit! We learnt a story about going on a polar bear hunt, we had to go through some slippery ice, through a blizzard, through an ice berg and through a frozen forest until we came to a polar bear den! We saw two googly eyes, two furry ears and a black nose so we ran away, all the way back to school! We don't think we will go on a polar bear hunt again!
This week our visitor was Snowy The Polar Bear from the North Pole. We learnt lots of things about polar bears. We learnt that they live in snow dens and like to eat fish and seals. To make Snowy feel at home we made our own snow den, then we decided to make it into Polar Bear School and teach the polar bear some writing! We also caught some numbered fish for him to eat using magnets.
This week Elsa from Frozen sent us a letter! She needed our help because her ice palace had melted! We decided we would make her a new palace so we made her one out of boxes, one out of icy playdough and we turned the home corner into an ice palace.
She sent us some very special ice that was all sparkly and we made the most beautiful ice palaces with it. Have a look at our pictures.
This week 12/1/15 Chilly the Penguin was feeling homesick so his mum sent us some ice to remind him of home. We had great fun exploring the ice. It was cold! It quickly melted and turned into water. So then we thought about how we could make him some more. We left some water in the room but it didn't turn into ice so we put some in the freezer and that worked.
Then Chilly's mum sent us some of his toys but they were frozen in ice! We had to work out how to get them out. We tried bashing the ice but that was hard work so then we poured warm water on it and that quickly melted the ice. Chilly was happy when we got his toys out.
This week Chilly the Penguin has been sent to us to look after. We thought about ways we could make him feel at home.
Some of us thought we could make him some friends so he wouldn't be lonely. We thought we could turn off the heating so he wouldn't be too hot but then we might get cold, so we decided to make him a fridge to sit in! It even started to snow in Nursery!
Have a look at our pictures.

This week the Farmer sent us an enormous turnip! We heard the story of how he had to ask lots of people and animals to help him pull the turnip up.
