A very busy week in Ash Class. We have learnt the new sounds 'c', 'k', 'e', 'u' and 'r' in our phonics session and we had a great Write Dance session in the Hall on Monday. The children have shown a real interest in writing and posting letters in our postbox and enjoyed making their own stamps and fitting them into envelopes. For Black History Month we have been learning about Bob Marley and how he united people through his music and its positive messages. For example when Marley joined the hands of political rivals Michael Manley and Edward Seaga. The children learnt to sing the song 'One Love', which they really enjoyed. In Maths we have been learning about ordering numbers and saying numbers that are one more / one less than a given number. We looked at 1 more / less by adding or taking away an object from a group and looking at a number track.

Have a lovely weekend

This week we have been exploring numbers from 6 to 10 and we have also been learning the sounds n, m, d, g and o. We also had a day of activities planned around Percy The Park Keeper and the Storm. These included leaf threading, roleplay, making woodland creatures, making boats and much more!

Please have a look in the 'Useful documents' section of our class page for the notes from our recent reading meeting and a sound mat showing the pictures on the sound cards we use in school. These pictures help the children with their letter formation. For example "Around the apple and down the leaf" for the letter 'a'

We have really enjoyed listening to all the children read to us this week...and hearing about their reading at home.

Have a great weekend

This week in Ash Class we have started learning about the sounds 's', 'a', 't', 'p', and 'i'

As well as learning to recognise them we have been practising writing them on large sheets of paper and in the air. The songs we have been learning for each sound have been attached in a video on our class page if you want to look at them at home. We have also been to our first write dance session in the Hall...it was great fun. First of all we did a volcano dance with scarves and then we practised drawing the volcano on giant sheets of paper using the same movements we used in our dance. In Maths we have been exploring the numbers 1 to 5 and looking for examples of a particular number in our learning environment. For example, our number yesterday was 4 and we found that there were 4 legs on our class chairs and four sides to the square ceiling tiles above our heads. We also learnt rhymes to help us learn how tow write each number....for example down and across down some more, that's the way we write a four. In the outside area we have been building dens, balancing across structures, engaging in roleplay, building giant marble runs and more. The Evening Post came in to take our class photo, so keep an eye out for the weekend supplements....I imagine it will be in this weekend or next weekend's paper.

Have a lovely weekend

Another busy week in Ash Class. We are getting really good at singing a variety of songs and we have been finding our own carpet spaces and selecting our own names for self-registration each morning. We have also created some amazing artwork inside and outside of the classroom and lots of creative and imaginative role play has been taking place. We have been focusing on listening skills this week through playing circle time games. It's great to see the children forming new friendships and becoming more confident as they settle into the school routine.

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday

Mr H

Well done Ash Class for completing your first week of school with three full days in a row! I am really proud of all the progress you have made in such a short space of time. We have had lots of fun this week, including whole school Art Day on Wednesday. We made collaged fruit based on the work of Mary Fedden (a Bristol based artist). See the picture below....it will be displayed at the 'Art on the Hill' exhibition in October.

More photos to follow soon

Have a lovely weekend
