Welcome to Year 1
We hope you all had a good summer.
We have had a great start to the term in 1 Hawthorn. Our topic is 'Caring for animals' and we have enjoyed some exciting learning experiences linked to the topic.
Our PE days are Wednesday and Friday so please make sure your child has a PE kit in school on those days.
We welcome parents and carers coming in to help so please speak to one of us if you would be interested in helping in school.
Our learning this term
In Maths, the children have been learning to count in twos, fives and tens. Here is a link to a song we have been singing to help remember how to count in twos;
We hope you were able to see Year 1 perform the 'Animal Song' in the playground. Here is the link to that song if you would like to sing along at home !
Please continue to support your child to develop a love of reading and to practice their reading skills.
Here are a few ideas;
-read books in your child's book bag, a little and often is best. Find a time that works for you and your family
-share books in your home language, enjoy stories at bedtime, and revisit favourite books and rhymes
-talk to your child about what you are reading yourself and what you enjoy reading
-help your child to discover and learn new words and what they mean
The Oxford Owl website has free access to ebooks which you could read with your child. It also has short videos which explain more about phonics.
If you have any questions about reading please speak to Ms McNab or Ms Radnor. We will also have a reading activity focus for this term's curriculum afternoon.
