Term 2

Term 2

We had a fantastic start to the year together and have come back refreshed and ready for Term 2!

Our topic this term is 'How Can I Stay Safe?' Our main theme is Water Safety, which links to our story 'The Canal', our swimming lessons (which will be in Term 3 and 4), our study of rivers in Geography and our boat designing skills in DT.

Our Science topic this term is 'Light'. We will be looking at where light comes from, how shadows are formed and how light is reflected. This links closely to our RE topic 'Festivals' in which we are looking at Diwali and Christmas - two festivals in which light is a key feature! We will also design reflective clothing in DT, which links to how we can stay safe at night, particularly when cycling.

In writing this term we will be looking at how the writer's choices of language can change the tone and impact on the reader. We are focussing on using adverbs, powerful verbs, expanded noun phrases and speech. We will learn how to write a good problem, resolution and ending, innovating a story, before creating our own.

In Maths we are focussing on developing our reasoning skills. We have a new addition to the class; The Maths Ape. He helps us remember that with reasoning we have to Answer Prove and Explain.

We will also be looking at multiplication and division, as well as problem solving including word problems.

This term the children have already produced some lovely pieces of home learning - which can be linked to any part of our curriculum. This is not mandatory or set as homework, it is up to the children how much they do and if they wish to do it but they are free to bring in anything that links to learning in school (topic, artefacts, pictures, writing, books, etc.)

We will keep you updated with photos throughout the term.
