Week Beginning 9th February
The week started with a bang! Monday was maths day! We went to all the classes in our phase and each lesson was planned around the theme of Wonka's Chocolate factory. With Miss Price we had to design our own golden ticket and create tessellation patterns. With Mr Law we had to work out the probability of finding good and bad nuts. With Miss Shreeves we had to measure and make a drink for Mr Willy Wonka.
In Topic this week we were finding out the history of Chocolate, we had to draw a timeline.
During curriculum afternoon we made the packaging for our chocolate bars, they were looking really impressive!
In Literacy we wrote our own newspaper report about maths day, we applied everything we had learnt from out Talk for Writing unit.
In maths we were learning to draw and interpret bar graphs and line graphs.
We continued to look at and think about how Hindu's live their lives and karma.
Week Beginning 2nd February
This week in maths we have been finding equivalent fractions and answering some tricky questions e.g:
If I know that 1/3 is 12, what would the whole number be?
In Literacy we wrote our own newspaper report about our visit to Cadburys World last week. Also we wrote an account of what happened on our trip.
Our Topic lesson this week was finding out where cocoa was grown. We used atlases and the internet to find out where cocoa grows.
In RE we were finding about Hindu worship at home (puja) and we had to design our own reflection area.
In PE we have been developing our dance skills.
In ICT we used publisher to make adverts for our chcoclate bars.
In Art last week we got 40/40 for the very first time, we are very pleased with ourselves. We were the first class in the whole school to get it in Art. :)
Finding where chocolate comes from
Week Beginning 26th January
On Thursday we went to CADBURY WORLD to investigate how chocolate was made. We went round the factory and saw the machines packing the chocolate and saw how the chocolates were made. We also went in mini cars around Beansville. Our favourite part was a 4D cinema, even the chairs were moving. It was amazing!! It really brought it to life. Around the factory we got to try some melted chocolate and we were able to choose two toppings to go on it. IT WAS DELICIOUS!!!! We learnt about the amazing journey of cocoa beans and lots of the work is done by hand! We had an amazing time.
In literacy we have been learning a new text that is a newspaper report all about Charlie going into Wonka's factory.
In maths we have been learning and challenging oursleves with fractions of amounts.
Week Beginning 19th January
In Literacy we have been writing our own version of a story of how Violet finds her golden ticket. We have continued to read a book called Charlie and the Chocolate factory.
In Maths we have been learning about two step word problems. Also in maths we have been finding patterns about multiples of 3. We used digit sums to help us find patterns.
We became knights of knowledge when a woman came in and took us on a journey to see how chocolate was made. We were pretending to be farmers who were growing chocolate. We also learnt about fair trade chocolate.
In topic we have been learning about Chocolate and we have been designing our own chocolate bars. In Science we were also looking at how many KJ there were in 100g of different chocolates and showed it on a bar chart.
In PE we were learning how to shoot with a hockey ball.
We are very excited because next week we are going to CADBURYS WORLD!!
Role play and Quest for Chocolate
Week beginning 12th January
In Literacy this week we have been learning about balanced arguments and on Thursday we had a debate about whether Wonka's factory should be closed down or stay open. We also planned and wrote a balanced argument about this topic.
We can now say greetings and ask each other how they are in Spanish!
In numeracy we have been practicing our six times tables and some of us are getting really, really fast! We have also been learning about the 24 and 12 hour clock.
In Topic we have been set a challenge to design and make a chocolate bar for 8 and 9 year olds. We needed to make sure that 8 and 9 year olds would like our chocolate bar so we carried out market research to find out what we liked. We collected our data on tally charts.
Week Beginning 5th January
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
In topic we have started a new topic, CHOCOLATE!!!!! We were looking at different chocolate adverts and how they stand out! We also asked lots of questions about Chocolate that we hope to find the answers to.
In Literacy we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory and writing about Charlie's feelings as he walked passed the chocolate factory.
Our PE topics this term is Hockey and Dance. We began hockey this week.
In maths we have been learning about time on analogue clocks and digital clocks. Also in maths we have been looking at multiples of 6 and noticing patterns.
