This week started off with Science Day! First we sorted animals however we wanted, we had big and small, predators and not predators, land animals and water animals and cute and ugly! Next we learnt all about mammals, reptiles and birds and sorted African animals into these groups. We also learnt about carnivore, herbivore and omnivore. We wrote Who Am I? cards and they went up on display.
We have also been planning our own wishing tales with new fishing objects and amazing settings and in Numeracy we have been working on tricky word problems.
Thank you to everyone who came to Curriculum afternoon, we hoped you enjoyed the King of the Fishes and making Anansi spider webs with us.
See you next term, have a lovely break.
This week we have been changing The King of the Fishes for our own wishing character! We had; jellyfish, crabs, mermaids and even divers! We then wrote the story with our changes. They are amazing.
In numeracy we have carried on looking at centimeters. Measuring things in the classroom and even solving word problems which were very tricky.
On Tuesday we had a D&T day where we designed, made, tested and evaluated boats. We got a class certificate for having high hopes that our boats would all float. Please see our pictures below.
Miss Barker has been so proud of our learning this week that we have got 40 leaves on the tree!
This week we discovered a story from China. It was called the King of the Fishes. We learnt the whole story using actions, ask me to show you! We also painted our own MAGNIFICENT fish and wrote our own wishes on them. They will be going up on display soon.
In Numeracy we have been learning all about length. We measured things in the classroom with straws and cubes, did some estimating and also looked at finding the difference. We have just started looking at centimeters.
In RE we produced some beautiful art work about what we can do to make our world better.
This week we have continued our learning about Anansi. We looked at the story Anansi and the Tug of War and we acted it out. We were amazing at speaking clearly and dramatically. Please see our pictures below.
In Numeracy we have continued our work on time, looking at half past. We have also been thinking about seconds, minutes and hours. It takes us seconds to line up, minutes to get changed and we have an hour for lunch.
We also went on an imaginary bus tour around the UK; we have tea and biscuits with the Queen in London, watched some rugby in Cardiff, saw some bagpipes in Edinburgh and some Irish dancing in Belfast.
What a lovely learning week we have had this week! In literacy we continued learning about great storytellers, we found out all about Anansi who comes from Africa. He is a trickster who is very greedy! Anansi then went on a journey to Nottingham and we found out all about Robin Hood, some of us thought he was good and some of us thought he was bad.
We really really enjoyed watching Robin Hood at the theatre, it was really funny. Some of our best bits were Robin and Marion falling in love, the fights between the sherrif and Robin and also the sack race.
In Numeracy we have been learning to tell the time to o'clock and half past. This is a really tricky skill so please help us at home with this.
We have also been learning all about the countries that make up the UK as well as revising the 7 continents, 5 oceans AND how to spell the days of the week! Busy busy busy in Whitebeam this week :)
