This term's topic is called 'Take 5.' We are going to be learning 5 stories over the term, a different one each week then remembering all of them in the last week.
We will be starting off with an old favourite 'The Gingerbread Man.' We will be following this up with other traditional stories.
We will be trying to use the language of stories such as once upon a time, then, next, finally, in the end, they all lived happily ever after...
We will be practicing re-telling stories and making up our own. We will telling the stories orally and using marks to record our stories.
We look forward to telling you all our stories!
We started our Take 5 Topic by learning about The Gingerbread Man.
We watched the story being acted out by the Early Years staff, it was great fun!
We made real Gingerbread Men with Mrs Mengoud. We helped her make the dough by mixing all the ingredients. We thought the cinnamon and ginger spices smelt delicious. We rolled out the dough and each cut out a gingerbread man. Mrs Mengoud took them to the kitchen to cook and we were worried that they might try to run away when she opened the oven door! we told her to make sure all the windows and doors were shut when she took them out of the oven. We thought we might have to bite the legs off them to stop them running away! Luckily we managed to take them home after we had decorated them. They were really tasty.
We have learnt the words and actions to our story too, ask your child to show you.
We have heard the story of Jack and the Beanstalk this week and even planted our own magic beans that have already grown into a beanstalk that is nearly touching the ceiling. We wondered what might be at the top of the beanstalk. Have a look at our display outside the class to see our ideas.
Next week will be meeting 3 new characters, i wonder who they are....?
The latest story we have been learning is The Three Little Pigs. We acted out the story to begin with.
Then the Little Pigs asked us for some help. That naughty wolf has been up to old tricks again! He has been blowing down the poor pigs houses! They wanted us to find out what material would be the best to build a house with. They wanted a house that the wolf couldn't blow down. We tested straw, sticks and bricks by blowing them with a hair drier. The straw blew straight away, the sticks were a little harder to blow away and the brick didn't move at all! We decided to build them some new houses made of bricks.
