Term 5

Week beginning 11.05.15

In Maths we have been very busy bees and have multiplied and divided numbers by 10, 100 and 1000.

In English we have listening more to Kensukes Kindom. We have imagined ourselves as Michael and the orang-utan, describing what we have seen, heard and felt.

SPRING SHOW REHEARSAL!

We have been rehearsing our spring show song, ready to perform and thrill the school next week.

SMR ELECTIONS!

This week we have been delighted to see colourful posters on our school walls to promote and persuade children in our school to vote for different parties.  Each political party was made up of children from Year 1-6, and they decided how they wanted to spend 300 pounds to imporve the school. On Thursday every child in the school got to vote for the party they thought would make the biggest impact on their school life. We went into the hall and recieved a ballot paper from Miss Swift. We then took it into a voting booth and placed a cross on our chosen party. All votes are being counted and we will know the winning party on Friday.

Dr Whitcomb came in to visit us on Tuesday to teach us more about the brain. We learnt lots including:

- we have around 2 billion neurons in our brains

- neurons send messages and signals around our body

- your brain never shuts down, it keeps working 24/7

Br Whitcomb - learning about the brain

Week beginning 20.04.15

During our assembly, Ms Payne introduced an election which we will all be taking part in. Children will be put into teams, and they have to decide how to spend 300 pounds. They will present their ideas to the school and we will vote which one we think will be best for the school.

On Tuesday Mr Roberts came in and we created our own exhibitions to teach people, especially Bob, how to lead a healthy lifestyle. We will be following up on this later in the topic.

We explored the digestive system, using bread, water, coca cola, tights and a masher... and a bowl!

We also drew our own Bob, including his organs, muscles and bones.

"I almost vomitted as it was stomach turning experience when we saw the digestive system demonstration." said Miles.

"It looked like ...." said Jabez.

Week beginning 13.04.15

For our new topic, which is called 'What happens inside us?', we started exercising to keep up fit and see the effect exercise has on our heart beat. We will be continuing this throughout the whole term, but we may change the exercises.

In Math we learnt about symmetry, reflefcting patterns across different lines of symmetry and orientations. We used peg boards to challenge our partners to complete the pattern across a line of symmetry.

In english our talk for writing text is an explanation text titlesd 'How your heart works'.
