Term 5 - Our Place

"This term we've been practising our tennis skills". (Megan)

Hello and welcome back everybody!

 

We all hope you had a fantastic Easter break. The children have come back energised and ready for  learning. 

 

This term our topic is 'Our Place'. This is a science and geography based topic where we'll be exploring living things and their life cycles. Furthermore, in geography we'll be exploring local areas around our school and suggest ideas for improvement. The children will be exploring a variety of maps and will use this information to inform their ideas. 

 

HOME LEARNING

 

As always, there are many things that the children can do at home, especially during the weekends.

  • Reading a book every day for 20 minutes. When the child have read the book they can bring it in to add to our class list. 
  • Times table practise -  This will help massively during their maths lessons. 
  • Spellings - Children to practise the spellings that they find hard. We would also encourage the children to practise using a dictionary and a thesaurus. 
  • Survey of gardens - Pupils could make a plan of their garden (neighbours/relatives) and plot some plants indicating what they are and why they grow there.
  • Learn parts of a flower - Use own learning strategies to learn the names and functions of the parts of a flowering plant.
  • Collect seeds - Look in the garden and find any seeds which could add to the class collection. How do they think the seed was dispersed?
