Week commencing 22.06.15
A very busy week in Lime Class! We had a fantastic trip to @Bristol this week. The children must have slept well on Tuesday night after a long walk there and back and lots of learning whilst we were there. The brand new Planetarium was fantastic and a real highlight. Thanks to all the parents who volunteered their time on the day. I would also like to thank those parents who were able to help on our Art day on Wednesday. The children have all made individual model aliens from junk and papier mache as well as contributing to our beautiful beetle which we will proudly display during Art on the Hill, later on in the year. I would like to congratulate all the children on their amazing speeches for the Speaking and Listening competition, we loved listening to them in class and it was great to see how much their confidence has developed over the year. It was hard to pick a winning boy and girl from Lime class as everyone had put so much effort in. We were proud of our two class representatives who were amazing in Thursday's competition, speaking in front of an audience of over 400 people in the school hall!
Have a great weekend

Week Commencing 01.06.15
Welcome back everybody. We have had a lovely first week back and our new topic 'Space' is proving very popular. This week we learnt about the moon. The children have been really interested in learning about low gravity on the moon and have loved watching videos about astronauts and how they cope in zero gravity when travelling through space. They absolutely loved the planet rap video which I showed them, so I have uploaded it for you to watch / sing along at home.
On Monday we went to an assembly about this year's whole school art project for 'Art on the Hill'. We are going to be making a class sculpture based on the work of Niki De Saint Phalle. This week we practised painting in her style by carefully copying her work using vibrant colours separated by dark lines. The children chose between copying a cow or a dog, whilst listening to our composer of the term, Bob Dylan. The next step will be designing a beetle in her style. One of these pictures will be chosen to be turned into a 3D sculpture, which the whole class will decorate on our whole school art day later in the year.
We also went to an assembly, introducing this year's Speaking and Listening Competition, which will be on the theme of 'My World' (explained in a recent letter home).
We have sent home a letter and reply slip for this term's trip to @Bristol and the Planetarium. This term we will also be taking part in 'International Week' and 'Wildlife in the Park Week' along with many other exciting events. Looking forward to it all and hope the children are too!
See you all next week.
