This week the children had an exciting transition to Year 1 to meet their new teacher Miss Barker! They also spent some time getting used to their new classroom this morning whilst Year 1 were on a trip and they will be spending another morning with Miss Barker next week on the Friday. We were sad to say a final farewell to Forest School today...we went on a nature walk to look at some interesting fungi, we made some amazing pieces of natural artwork, went running through a willow tunnel and threw helicopter seeds into the air. Please have a look at the videos and photos below.
All the best
Final Forest School Goodbye
We started this week's learning with an amazing Science Day. The children went to a brilliant assembly led by Mr Fry and then took part in a carousel of experiments in Reception Classes, Outside areas and the Nursery. Lots of fun was had by all and you can see some of the experiments below. The most popular was launching film canister rockets with vitamin C tablets and water on the top playground!
In arts and craft we have made a papier mache model of the moon's surface and we have made planets by decorating spherical lamp shades. We had a visit from Bex from Child of Hope School in Uganda, who came to our class to show us some videos of the work they are doing with children and families who use the school. She also thanked Whitebeam for the money they raised through their sponsored bike ride. This money will be spent on sports equipment f."or the children. Find out more about Child of Hope by visiting their website.
Here's what the children remembered about this week's learning:
"I liked the Science Day. I liked the bit where the rockets were going up."
"I like Forest School day!"
"I liked Tuesday because it's my reading day."
"I liked playing with my friends in Year 1."
"I carried a bucket of water in assembly. It was very, very heavy." (Bex was demonstrating one of the jobs that the children had to do every day in Uganda.)
Have a fantastic weekend everyone, I hope it doesn't rain!
We enjoyed a lovely day out at @Bristol this week. We escaped the downpour and the children did amazingly well to walk so far. I hope you will get a lie-in tomorrow as I am sure the children will be exhausted! Please have a look below at some photos of our trip.
Have a great weekend
We have made a great start to our space topic and have already learnt lots about the planets in our Solar System and and how they orbit the sun. Please have a look at the video of our class acting out the solar system on the playground. We have also watched videos of astronauts in space and on the moon. We have also explored and seen videos of the effects of zero gravity. Ask your child what happens to water in space! In Literacy this week we learnt how to use adjectives to describe an alien and we are now designing and writing about our own aliens.
At Forest school today the children made some lovely mushrooms from clay and explored all the new creatures and plants that are appearing at our site. Happy Fathers Day and don't forget to look in book bags for cards if they haven't been to you already.
Have a great weekend
