Term 6

Year 5 Term 6 spelling

Welcome to Term 6!

It really is the last term of this academic year already! No doubt, it is going to be jam-packed with brilliance!

Our whole school topic theme for this term is Colourful Cultures. Year 5 are exploring the question: What is it like on the other side of the world? Lime class are focusing on New Zealand!  We will find out about the human and physical features of New Zealand, its climate, culture, history, food and much more. We will be developing our skills in using atlases, globes and grids through our learning.

In English, our class book this term is the wonderful Holes by Louis Sachar. It is a fantastic story which covers many emotive and topical themes. Set in Camp Green Lake, the main character (Stanley) is sent to a juvenile correction facility where he is made to spend his days digging holes in the hot, barren dessert that once was beaming with life 110 years earlier. In our writing, we will focus on diary entries, formal letter writing and narrative. In Maths, we will be moving on to geometry and measurement.

PE will continue to be on a Tuesday and Thursday. Please make sure that your child is sent to school with a full and correct PE kit.

At home, you can help your child's progress in learning by making sure that they take time out to read every day. Do ask them questions about their reading that encourages them to think about what is happening in the story, what might happen yet, their views on characters, how the author has used language to engage the reader. Also, it would be helpful if you continue to ensure that basic number facts and time tables are embedded so that your child is able to recall these speedily.

There will be information sent home about a local visit so look out for that!

Thank you for all of your continued support!
