This week we launched our new learning by going to the park looking for signs of Autumn. We collected different coloured leaves and sycamore seeds and saw squirrels and birds.Despite a long search we did not find any chestnuts. We had our snack in the park and a play in the playground together.
We are making hedgehogs out of card and clay and later making a nest for them to hibernate in.We are finding totals by counting how many conkers squirrel and hedgehog have.
On Friday we celebrated Elmer Day, the children wore bright patterned clothes and we used their ideas to make it a special day. We decorated biscuits with a colour pattern of smarties and made elephant hats.
This week we are continuing looking at elephants and we began the week by reading Elmer.
We are making one big elephant with each child designing and drawing their own square.
We are creating shape and colour patterns in maths.The children are using cubes,counters,and 2D shapes to make their own patterns.
Elmer liked being different, we are discussing how we are different and what makes us special.
For our "Happy Friday" treat the children will be decorating biscuits with a colour pattern of smarties.

The children have made a great start in Reception. They have explored all the areas of learning inside and outside the classroom and have been making new friends.
We started the term reading the book "The Dot" encouraging the children to have a go, even when you think you can't. We have made many dots out of water colour paints and paper. Come and have a look at our art gallery of dots around Early Years.
Then we read Anna Hibiscus Song set in "Amazing Africa", we discussed what makes them happy and makes them want to sing. Our next book was "Greedy Zebra" and we have learned about African animals and patterns in nature.
We carried on looking at patterns on Art Day by making dots on fabric in style of Lucienne Day. Thank you to all those who came to help us with the art work in class and also to those who came to the art trail.
