We have started our topic on What Happens in Winter by thinking about Diwali. We have learnt about the story of Rama and Sita and why Hindu's celebrate Diwali. We loved the story and made puppets to act out the story. We thought the ten headed demon Ravana was amazing and worked together to make a big version of him.
We looked at the different ways families celebrate Diwali and made Rangoli patters, mandalas and Torans. On Thursday we had a Diwali party where we learnt some Bollywood dancing, listened to prayers and shared some food. Happy Diwali to all our families who are celebrating this week.
We started PE this week which was very exciting, don't forget that children need to wear their PE to school every Thursday.
This week the children thought about our enquiry question and what they thought about what happens in winter. The children had noticed that the days are getting shorter as it is dark in the mornings and the evenings. We then went on to think about what gives us light. We read the story 'The very lonely firefly' which gives us different light sources. We made our own fireflies and made firefly books. We also watched an amazing clip of fireflies in a forest in North America, it was amazing!
In Maths we have been thinking about one more and one less. The children used number fans, number lines and lots of counting resources to help them find one more and one less.
We have also painted our self portraits this week, look out for them when we put them up in our classrooms.
