WC 4th December 2017
This has been a really busy week with lots of highlights, including our first trip to St. Mary Redcliffe Church and our first performance of the Christmas play. Thanks so much for all your support with these events during such a busy time of year. More photos to follow here shortly. We have put together a pack of activities for the children to practise over the holiday. This will be handed out next week.
Have a great Weekend
This week we have started learning about the Christmas story and we watched a video of an artist telling the story through pictures using sand and a light box. We have also been singing songs for our Christmas Play called 'Sparkle', which we will be performing on the 8th and 11th of December. In Maths we have been learning how to find 1 more in various different ways including adding 1 more object to a group, counting on one number in our heads and jumping one place forwards on a number track. In Literacy we have finished consolidating all of the sounds taught so far and have been using our 'Robot Talk' in order to segment sounds in words and write them down.
This week we had our first ever forest school session. We built dens, played in hammocks, dug for worms and collected creepy crawlies in bug pots. We also had a lovely cup of hot chocolate at base camp. Well done done to Sycamore class for following all the forest school rules.
In maths we have been learning to count sides in 2D shapes up to a pentagon. In phonics we are consolidating the sounds we have learnt so far and practising the skills of segmenting sounds and blending sounds in words. We have also been learning our talk for writing story 'The Little Red Hen'.
In PE we practised balancing and moving in different ways around the hall and on basic equipment such as mats and benches.
Have a lovely weekend
Welcome back to the new term and our new topic of Special Times and Festivals. On Monday we learnt about Mexico's day of the dead festival and have been decorating skull pictures to enter a whole school competition. In Literacy we have been exploring adjectives and similes using the picture of the day from the National Geographic's website. We have also been playing with ice and writing poems about ice. In phonics sessions we have been consolidating the sounds we have learnt so far and have played games which involve blending and segmenting words (ask your children about Metal Mike the robot!) In Maths we have solved problems that require sharing fairly.
We have a busy week next week with PE on Wednesday and our first Forest School session on Thursday.
Have a great weekend
