The Night Before Christmas performed by Elm Class
First weeks of term 2
The children have been learning about different sources of light, such as sunlight, stars, torches, lamps, lamp posts and car head lights. Our beautiful firework display is in the corridor. We listened to the story of Diwali and acted it out in small groups. We have been finding out how Hindus celebrate their festival of light and all the children made rangoli patterns, clay divas and Diwali cards. We are looking forward to our Diwali party on Friday, the children can bring party clothes and change into them in the afternoon. If you would like to bring Indian food to share (no pork or nuts), that would make our party even better!
This week we have learned c,k,ck,e,u,r and practice writing these letters. Apologies for the delay in giving out the tin of keywords, we are waiting for the special tins to arrive and we will do this as soon as possible.
Our focus this week has been pattern and symmetry, help your child spot this in the environment.
Our term 2 topic is "How to Catch a Star" with a focus on light and dark. We will be learning about two festivals, the Hindu festival of light, Divali and Christmas. Our learning will be based around several picture books including "The Very Lonely Firefly", "Papa get the Moon" and "Draw me a Star".
Children will continue learning phase 2 phonics through games, songs, stories and rhymes.
In maths we will be ordering different objects by size and weight. We will also be making Rangoli patterns with a challenge to make them symmetrical.
This is the time of the year when we celebrate Christmas and you can look forward to seeing our class performances at the end of term. We will be busy learning new songs and creating our own dances.
