We have started this term's topic about Light and Dark by looking at Fireworks as this week it was Bonfire Night.
We remembered that we must be very careful around bonfires and fireworks.
We thought about what fireworks sounded like. Pow! Bang! Fizzle! Sparkle!
We thought about what they looked like too. We made some very colourful pictures.
We did a science experiment too. We used milk, food colouring and washing up liquid to make our own fireworks. We put drops of food colouring in the milk. We dipped cotton buds in washing up liquid and then dipped them into the milk. It made amazing patterns just like fireworks!
Have a look at our pictures.
This week we have been celebrating Diwali, the festival of lights.
We heard the story of Rama and Sita which we loved. We made them them little lights called divas to light their way home.
Ravana is the demon in the story and he had 10 heads so we made our own Ravana and counted out 10 heads.
We also had some special food for our celebration. We made samosas. We mashed the potatoes and added some spices and peas. Then we wrapped the mixture in pastry, making a triangle shape. They tasted delicious!
We loved celebrating Diwali!
We have been reading the story by Eric Carle of The Very Lonely Firefly. We loved the book and have done lots of art work and drawings of the firefly. We went on a firefly hunt too, collecting all the fireflies we could find in a jar.
We have also thought about sources of light. and have been investigating the dark with torches and lanterns. We made shadows on the wall with torches.
Next week we are looking at another book by Eric Carle all about the moon.
