The penultimate week of Term 2!
This week we have started to get into the Christmas spirit. As part of our Friday challenged we were tasked with decorating our class room for Christmas!
See below a picture of our 3D snowflakes and Christmas trees:
On Friday we had an RE day, which involved creating Christingles and looking at the importance of these.
We also looked at how Christmas is celebrated in different countries. In Year 4 we looked at celebrations in Scandinavian countries.
We then made Haiku poems about Advent. These poems are created using 3 lines with a pattern of 5, 7 and 5 syllables.
This week we have started our measuring unit in maths. We have been busy measuring things around our school including Miss Hinchcliffe and the Pirate ship in our playground. We then converted our measurement from meters into centimeters and vise versa.
This week we have been very busy!
During RE we looked at how Muslims view Allah as the Giver of nature. We visited our school reflection garden to reflect upon the beauty of nature and thought about a promise we could make to show respect for nature.
In Music this week we looked at La Mourisque by the Renaissance composer Tielman Susato (1500-1561). We looked at the instruments used in this time period, compared them to instruments used today and looked at where this type of music would have been played.
Wow what a week of learning!
We were lucky enough to visit Windmill farm this week to learn about habitats, living things and consolidate our learning about decomposers from last term. We even got to feed goats and pigs!
I am sure the children in Dogwood have shared their experience with you!
We also had a second educational trip to Victoria Park on Wednesday to hunt for Invertebrates in our local area. We looked at different areas of the park such as near walkways, under logs and in grassy area. We then spoke about why we found less living insects near walk ways than other places. To identify the living things we found we used a classification key, which is a skill we have been learning about. Here are some pictures below!!
We have returned to school well rested and ready for another great term of learning!
This week we have been using our inference skills and asking questions about the plot of our new class text Kenzukes Kingdom!
We have read 3 chapters so far and cannot wait to read more!
See below some of our clue maps to show our predictions:
This week we wrote letters to a member of the Marmalade Trust. A charity that helps people through loneliness- something that is especially important in these strange times!
See below some of our lovely uplifting letters!
