Term 2

Happy Christmas from all the children and staff in 5 Lime.

Have a restful holiday and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Ukulele Performance

Well done to 5 Lime, who performed their arrangement of 'We Will Rock You' this week. We arranged the song with our teacher Ella and worked hard to learn the lyrics and chords over the last few weeks. We hope you enjoy watching the performance as much as we enjoyed making it.

Today we had a RE day and we made a christingle out of oranges, sweets, 4 spiky sticks, raisins, red ribbon and a candle.

In computing we did coding and commands.

On Wednesday in PE we played basketball and with a partner we were throwing and catching. We also played a match!

In Ukuklele we learnt a new chord G major, which sounds like happy sound! It is a tricky chord to play because you have to use 3 fingers to play it.

Next week we are filming the class playing 'We will rock you' by Queen.

On Wednesday in our computer lesson we made a Mars Rover. This is a machine a bit like a robot with wheels, which explores Mars. We used a SAMS lab app to control the Mars Rover and we had a class competition to discover who had travelled the furthest in 60 seconds.

With Mrs. H we created 3D planets made out of card and decorated with oil pastels and paints. Some children showed their work to Mr. Fry and Miss Dudding.

In English we wrote some fantastic character descriptions about Liam Digby who is the main character in our class book 'Cosmic'. We started reading our book on Monday. It is funny and makes us laugh because Liam is mistaken for an adult and had some interesting adventures.

In Maths we learnt about prime, square and cubed numbers. We also drew block graphs to show our Mars Rover data.

This week with Mr.G we learnt how to code and what a loop is.

It was Miss Stone's birthday and we celebrated by eating doughnuts!!  Yum!!

Today we are going to make Christmas decorations using gold and silver card and  thinking what gift we can give to the world that is free!!

In PE we played a game of hide and seek. Miss Stone and Mr. Dwyer were the seekers and we tried not to get caught.

We also played basketball and learnt how to pass and dribble.

This term we have been learning about space and the planets.

On Monday we started writing our non chronological reports about the planets and the sun.

On Thursday we made our own solar systems and we used paints to create the planets. We also used paper to make pictures about space.

On Wednesday in PE we played jail break and for the warm up each house had 2 leaders for our exercises.

In maths we have been learning about line graphs.

Today we wrote shape poems about space.

Mr.Dwyer's Space group

On Thursday with Mr.Germain we went to the playground and we made a video. We had to hide a lego brick and the video was about how to find it.

This week in maths we have been learning about statistics and problems.

In Science we have been learning about the solar system and the planets.

In English next week we are going to write a non chronological report about SPACE.

Space Banner

In groups, we created space banners to show what we already know about space.

We drew pictures of the planets, the big bang and a black hole.

This week we started learning about our topic using Guided Reading. We have been learning about Neil Armstrong.

In Art with Mrs.H we are going to make planets and experimented with textures. They will be 3D versions of the planets in the solar system.

Miss Stone says we are the best class and our learning this week has been supreme.

Half term is here; it’s time for a well-earned break!

It has been a fantastic start to the new school year and we are all really proud of the way the children have adjusted to the new routines of school life at SMRP. The first term back is always slightly longer than usual and there’s been lots for the children to take on board, so we know that they are looking forward to having a chance to relax and recharge before we head into Term 2. Please take some time over the break to use the Oxford Reading Buddy with your child and make the most of this wonderful learning resource.

In Term 2, we will be learning about Earth and Space and will be sharing the book ‘Cosmic’ by Frank Cotrell-Boyce with the children.

PPA will be on a Thursday afternoon and covered by Mrs.H and Mr.Germain.

PE days will remain on the same: Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing the correct kit, consisting of a white t-shirt, black shorts leggings or tracksuit bottoms and black daps or trainers. They will also need to wear their school jumper.

This year, we will be using Knowledge Organisers to share information about what the children will be learning each term in Science, History, Geography and RE. You can find out all about what we will be studying by reading a copy online at the top of this page.
