Term 4 is all about DINOSAURS! The children are really excited about this topic and so are we! It always amazes us how much knowledge they already have at the beginning of the topic and how eager they are to learn more. Dinosaurs present a great vehicle about the differences between fiction and non-fiction books as there are so many great age appropriate texts in both categories. Our 'Talk for Writing' text this term will be 'How to Trap a Dinosaur'. This will provide the children with the opportunity to learn basic time connectives such as 'First, Next, After that and Finally' which they can use to write simple instructions. There will also be plenty of 'Dino-Maths' opportunities including measuring footprints and ordering objects by length, size and weight. We will also be having fun learning about dinosaurs through music, art and small world roleplay. The dinosaurs will be coming to Forest School with us too!
*Write a factfile for your favourite dinosaur and draw a picture of it
*Create your own dinosaur from junk-modelling resources
*Go to your local library and find some books on dinosaurs to do your own research!
Hope you enjoy the new topic
All the best the EYFS team
We have loved spending time finding out more about dinosaurs this term!
It has been amazing to see what the children already know about dinosaurs and it has been great seeing your dinosaur models. I have been impressed to hear the children learn so many names of dinosaurs and new vocabulary such a camouflage and what herbivore, carnivore and even omnivores are!
There have been plenty of dinosaur related activities including a dino hunt, footprint printing, fact tile writing, pretending to be paleontologists and much more. Photos are to come soon!
