Term 4

Welcome to Term 4

This term we are starting a new topic called What is a Story?

We are going to be learning about lots of different stories, including some traditional tales and even making up our stories!

Week 1

Anansi the Spider has come to visit all the way from Ghana in West Africa. He loves to tell stories and there are quite a few stories about Anansi himself. He can be quite a trickster! We have listened to some of his stories this week. He loves to collect stories too so over the next few weeks we will be finding lots of different stories for him.

We have been making up stories too and then at the end of the day we act out our stories. We call this helicopter stories and it is great fun!

It has also been World Book Day this week. We came to school  dressed up as our favourite book characters. We even went into assembly and saw the rest of the school's costumes too. We then went to the school library and read our books in different places.

It was a first visit to Forest School for some of our children this week. We had such fun even if it was very muddy!

Have a look at our pictures of our busy week.

Week 2:

This week we have learnt the story of the Gingerbread Man

here the link to the story if you would like to play it at home

We have been really busy baking ginger bread biscuits with Mrs Mangoud, she has been teaching the children about the ingredients and the process and they all had a go at mixing, using the rolling pins and the cutters after cooking them, they have been decorating them with colorful icing.

We have done story maps and children were really good at retelling the story, some kids had amazing ideas and they made improved versions to the traditional story.

We had a lovely session of Forest School on Wednesday were children had a go at building shelters for the woodland animals and we made animals out of clay using herbs and petals to decorate them.

We all have had a lovely week and kids have really enjoy this story.

There are lots of songs on youtube with the tune "run, run, as fast as you can" so maybe you can play some songs for them and see them joining in.

The recipe for the gingerbread man: (by Mrs Mangoud)

Have a nice weekend

Week 3:

This week we have learnt the story of Goldilocks and the 3 bears.

Above the link to one of the stories.

Children enjoyed the role play area with Goldilocks and the 3 beds, 3 bowls and 3 chairs for the bears, After listening to the story a few times kids were able to make a story map and remember the 3 chairs, bowls of porridge and 3 beds and 3 chairs.

Kids learnt how to make porridge mixing the oats with the milk and cooking it in the microwave. We had a really nice time sharing the porridge with our friends and spending some time together on the carpet meanwhile eating our porridge.

We had another lovely Forest school session and kids really enjoyed adding some bright colours into the landscape decorating tribal sticks. We had fun playing coo-ee and is lovely to see how kids are starting to make up new games and play together as they become more confident around the site.

We have been using paint to draw bears of different sizes and we have even made a bear mask using a paper plate and brown paper.

As you can see on the photos another busy and fun week.smiley

What about having porridge for breakfast this weekend... what will you have in your bowl? (strawberries, bananas, chia seeds, honey, peanut butter, nutella...endless choices!)

Have a good weekend

This week we have been learning about Easter.

We have made Easter crowns with long floppy ears where children have been amazing with their scissors skills, persevering to get both ears cut out!

We have made nest with chocolate eggs and cereals, children have had a go at mixing and placing their mixture on the cupcake case.

We have use lots of glitter and paint and have been really good at decorating paper Easter eggs and hanging  them on the Easter tree.
