Term 4 - A Picture Paints a Thousand Words
This week we have been practising knots and whittling at Forest School in preparation for a DT challenge that we have been set...a structure to hold Jemmy Button's kettle over a fire so that he can boil water to make a hot chocolate. Thursday was a really fun-packed World Book Day, with children moving around the Year 3 and 4 classrooms for different activities based on the teacher's favourite books. We also had a 'Battle of the Books' in our classroom where we sat in two teams and took it in turns to tell everyone why our character's book was the best. We also used these skills in some persuasive writing, looking at the question of whether or not Jemmy Button should have been taken away from his home to visit Victorian England.
In Maths we learnt about equivalent lengths and how to convert mm, cm and m into other units of measure.
Have a lovely weekend everyone
What an eventful first week back! Year 3 had their first forest school trip with Mr Germain and Mrs H.
"We took wood rubbings of the tree to find the texture of the trees and took pictures of the different trees with the ipads."
Another highlight from this week was a team of Bristol University students, teaching the children CPR and how to help if someone starts choking. The children were lucky enough to have 4 medical students in the room, which meant that they got plenty of practice in a small group. This was part of our life skills day. We also learnt about asthma and how to support someone who is having an asthma attack.
We have finished our maths unit on geometry and we have started reading and writing about our new book Jemmy Button in literacy lessons. In RE we have started to learn about the Easter story and we have tackled some challenging new vocab such as incarnation, gospel, fall and creation!
Have a great weekend
See you all on Monday for week 2!
We hope you all had a relaxing holiday and are refreshed for another busy term!
This term our topic is called ' A Picture Paints A 1000 Words'. We will be using a story called 'Jemmy Button' as the inspiration for our topic.
Please do take a look at this terms knowledge organiser to see what the children will be covering this term in their topic.
Unfortunately, the swimming pool is still not open due to the work but we will keep you updated with any news.
This term we will be doing a workshop at the church, visiting the farm for our science and will be going out to forest school every week. Children will need to bring in warm clothes, waterproofs and wellies into school for these sessions. We will be needing parent helpers so please let the office or class teachers know if you can support us.
Forest School Dates (afternoon sessions):
Wednesday 26th February
Tuesday 3rd March
Tuesday 10th March

We are also working with year 4 to put on a show... Wind and the Willows. So look out for further information.
Please support your child by listening to them read, practise spellings and timetables and support them to learn the vocabulary from the knowledge organisers. There is a suggested dice game which the children will enjoy.
