Term 5

Week 1

Welcome back! Hope you all had a great Easter break.

In English this week, we were given a magic box full of clues for our new book this term. These included, a monkey, a doctor’s bag, a basket, tea, a cloud, and a sari. We created a story link map on the playground by thinking about how these clues could be linked, where is it set and what the problem/resolution in the story ay be using the clues given.

Lots of Year 4 thought the story was set in India due to the sari and that a monkey became sick after falling from the clouds. Some of the children thought the main character was an Indian women, who was a doctor.

Swimming continues on Fridays this term.

Week 2

We have been investigating circuits this week in Science and building our own series circuits.

We looked at open & closed switches and discussed real life everyday circuits.

Please encourage your child to read at least 4 times per week. Sign and date your child’s reading record, this will be checked on Fridays.

Don’t forget that you can also read on Oxford Reading Buddy:  and this can also be recorded in reading records. If you have forgotten your username and password, please speak to a Year 4 adult.

Times Table Rock Stars

Please encourage your child to practise their timestables on Times Tables Rock Stars at least 3 times per week for around 15 minutes. If your child needs a reminder of their username and password, please ask their class teacher.

Week 3

This week we visited the local Jamia Mosque. We enjoyed exploring the building and artefacts within it and our guide, the Imam Mohammad, shared insights into Muslim prayer rituals, the Qu'raan and the five Pillars of Islam.

Week 4

Using our newly learnt knowledge of mountain formation, Year 4 started making their own mountains this week. We used paper mache to construct our volcanic and glacial mountains on the playground - it got quite messy!
