Term 6

Welcome back!

We hope that you had a restful holiday and are looking forward to the beginning of the final summer term.

Things you need to know:

  • PE will now be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Children should come to school on these days dressed in their PE kit, which consists of a Plain White T Shirt and Black Tracksuit Bottoms, Leggings or Shorts. Because we do not get changed in school, we expect children to wear a school jumper and not a tracksuit top or hoodie.
  • PPA will be on Tuesdays and we will have a coach from Bristol Sport providing specialist PE instruction.

Our class story is 'The Dam' by David Almond and is tells the story of people affected by the building of a reservoir in the north of England. This links strongly with to our topic lessons this term, where we will be asking the question 'Why is water important?'

Week Three (Friday 25th June)

This week Year 5 took their summer assessments for Reading and Maths. On Friday, we had fantastic fun for Sports day. After a dreary start he weather brightened and the suns shone for most of our events: the Egg and Spoon Race; Rob the Nest, Football Dribbles; Obstacle Course and, of course, the Sprints

I enjoyed the science demonstration, where Mr Brownlow put a balloon over a bottle of Vinegar and poured Bicarbonate of Soda in to cause a chemical reaction- Poppy

At sports day we did loads of fun games, which I enjoyed- Ezra

In Maths, I enjoyed measuring angles with a protractor- Sherice

Week Two (June 18th 2021)

This week we visited the farm where we had the chance to find out about the sort of food people could grow on an allotment during WW2. We made potato bread and a delicious soup.

In Science, Mr Brownlow made elephant's toothpaste which went almost everywhere!- Michalina

We got to play tennis in PE and we had a proper rally using the tennis nets- Ezra

Week One (Friday 11th June)

Today was World Book Day at SMRP and we've all enjoyed a very busy day talking about our favourite books and learning about the story 'The Bird Within Me' by Sara Lundberg.

I enjoyed learning about decimals in Maths- Sokhna

Mrs Price and Miss Cameron reenacted a scene from Matilda and Miss Cameron had to eat a whole chocolate cake- Abdi
